My niece has been fealing out of sorts for the last few weeks (since she was on automn half term at her fathers)she is out of power, has pain in her legs, more speficifally her tighs, her hips, and now also lower back. She was so unwell teacher called my sister to come pick her up today.

She has been to the gp, he took some bloodtests last week, but they are not done yet, and he could only suggest cancer in the legs!

Has anyone else experienced any thing similar with their teenagers?

The doctor had not suggested kidney/urinary infection as a possibility. But then, my sister was not happy with him, so maybe he was just not a good doctor.

But it is a thought, as I remember when my aunt though herself down with a bad back, my mum insisted she see a doc as it could be kidneys, even though she had no weeing issues. So I shall mention it again.

She has headahces, pangs of nausea, pain that comes and goes in her entire body, but mostly focused around her back, her hips, thighs and legs.

It sounds like the way my friend was with a kidney infection not long after she had her second baby it was horrible.

When I first read your post my first thought was a kidney infection.

QuintessentialShadow · 10/11/2008 22:25

I will have a talk with my sister about it again. Thanks.

I had exactly those symptoms when I had a kidney infection. It was vile, worse than childbirth, but easily blasted with antibiotics. Hope she gets it sorted soon.

Sounds quite similar to my dd (12) who was recently diagnosed with fybromyalgia.

She went through lots of headaches, generally feeling unwell, weak, aching limbs and back, tummy pains etc. Dr sent us to a paediatrician who diagnosed it. SHe put DD on some mild medication which really helps. Google for more info.

thanks. I did not think of that. Her mum has fibromyalgia. She is on disability benefit for it....

Now that is very interesting as fybromyalgia is known to strongly run in families.

When the paed first heard all the syptoms my dd was having the first question she asked was if anyone in our family has fybromyalgia. My cousin has it really badly and loads of the rest of us have very achey tendencies. I have since found out that I also have it although, like dd, very mildly.

Fybro covers a huge spectrum of pain from mild discomfort to something quite debilitating (like your nieces mum has)

I don't take any medication for it except mild pain killers from time to time. DD is on a low dose of amytriptallin which the paed is going to take her off in a few months.

Hopefully, if your neice does have it , it might not be too severe.

Thanks for posting. She has the apt tomorrow, so hopefully they will find out more.

Hi

I have just had a friend with a teenage daughter who has sideways curvature of the spine (1 in 1000 teenage girls affected apparently) and it leads to postural problems if not sorted out - you could think about putting this on the list of questions for the pediatrician?

Good luck

Miggsie · 13/11/2008 09:45

Might be worth seeing an osteopath or Physiotherapist, there may be postural problems or a spasmed muscle...I am thinking the psoas muscle here, runs from the lower back round to the groin, if it tightens the lower spine goes out of alignment and it causes pain.
I get it every period...I also have fibromyalgia

Hi QuintessentialShadow. Any news following the appointment? I've been watching this thread but couldn't advise so didn't post. Hope all's ok, let us know either way. Here for you if needed.
