DD13 - wants to go to party, because of various reasons, I have said no....but WHY does it make me feel bad, saying no....she is also stropping round the house which makes for a crappy atmosphere......

Stay firm - I know it's hard

Have you explained your reasons to her? 13 is getting a bit old to be forbidden things 'Because I say so.' But even if you have been entirely fair and rational about it, she is still going to sulk like buggery, because she's a teenager who's been forbidden to go to a party. It;s what they do.

NCbirdy · 27/10/2008 19:06

duffy, you have still not got over your maternal urge to ensure that your child is always happy, has everything they want and, above all, knows you are the best person in the world - one who would never deny them anythng....

Don't worry she will kick that out of you over the next few years

IMO teenage years are basically the terrible twos with added hormones and attitude, along with the ability to reason and the audicity not to bother at will - ooh, am I making it sound good?

I have explained ......they are "friends of friends" they are all 15.......I dont think its suitable....

Am having a similar problem. DD has been invited to a party for Halloween, which is fine. However I've now found out that the plan is to go Trick or Treating, which I won't allow. She says she would rather not go at all than have to go later, after they've been T-or-T-ing.

DuffyMoon · 27/10/2008 19:20

is EVERYONE else being allowed to go T or T ing

So she says.

duffy, you must follow your instinct and if you really feel no is the right answer then it is (and actually you'll probably find other kids of her age have not been allowed to go - she'll just forget to tell you that).

However, am also wondering if there is any compromise available here...can she go just for an hour or so? This will probably horrify her even more. But at least it's an olive branch... you could tell her take it or leave it.
