Good morning

Wd very much appreciate your advice about what to buy for my nephew's 13th birthday. I'm stumped. In recent years, I've bought him clothes, books about aeroplanes and astronomy, and some strange technical add-on bits for his computer ...

Desperate for some new ideas please ...date is looming ...and he's the only teenage boy I know so a bit out of the loop ...

A million thanks

I live near Brussels, so it's the easiest way for relatives in the UK to do birthday, Christmas etc. He got enough last year to fund most of a PSP.

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/07/2008 12:30

He's a fortunate lad!

I live in Bxls so doing the same in reverse. Thxs again.

Counting - whereabouts are you then if you're in Bxls too?

Starmummy · 15/07/2008 16:32

Scary Teacher,

Thanks for the info on Greece a few months ago DH is still hanging about waiting re that job. but I just had to say I was Portsmouth born and bred and went to school in Fareham. Small world ???

Sorry for hijack but was very excited.

scaryteacher · 15/07/2008 17:12

Where did you go to school?

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/07/2008 17:48

Hi-jack away! Bxls is a small world. I swear if you stand in the International Shop (formerly English shop) for long enough, you will meet nearly everyone you have ever known ... it's like St Mark's Sq Venice ...

Scary - I'm not far from institutions

Do you mean Stonemanor?

My dh works at Kortenberg(?)

Starmummy · 15/07/2008 18:12

Me? I went to FAreham Girls Grammar (as was) the to Prices sixth form college (left after a short while as I thought it was too much like hard work!!)

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/07/2008 18:46

No, no - sorry - multi-tasking with dim brain here - meant the shop near Schuman that sells the full versions of the UK Sunday papers ....

This thread is turning into a Brussels/Tervuren Portsmouth/Fareham lovefest!

Scary - found you! I'll send you an e-mail soon otherwise I might forget with all these weeks of holidays we've got ahead of us. You're right about Jackie - I'm taking two French classes again next year!

Starmummy - I was born and bred in Portsmouth too! My main memories of Fareham were the piano festivals I used to take part in.

Counting - I live in Audergham and used to (long time ago) work in the Berlaymont (before they removed the asbestos ). What about you?

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/07/2008 20:29

Isn't it! ... How strange... from presents for 13 yr old boys to the home of Mannekin Pis, beer and chocolates ...

I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere but I'm too tired to work it out

I'm in Etterbeek

OP posts:
LongtimeinBrussels · 15/07/2008 20:44

Ooh, my daughter goes to school in Etterbeek (Paradis des Enfants) - just five minutes away in the car.

Mmmmmm, chocolates

scaryteacher · 15/07/2008 20:44

Starmummy - I don't think they had a Girls Grammar in Fareham when I was there. They'd got rid of the 11 plus, and I went to Bishopsfield.

CTGH - I'm in Tervuren.

Countingthegreyhairs · 15/07/2008 21:06

Small world indeed. DD is doing a summer 'stage' there (Paradis) this week, or she would be if she hadn't got slight tummy trouble .......

I raise a glass of Leffe Blonde to you all!!

OP posts:
LongtimeinBrussels · 16/07/2008 13:31

Or a nice cold Kriek from the VAT on a nice sunny day (so no need for one of those at the moment then ).

Hope your dd (can't get used to these mumsnet abbreviations!) is feeling better. Do you mind me asking how old she is and what school she goes to? Also, you say you're old (member page) but you can't really be that old if your dd is going to a stage at Paradis. I have a son of 19½! Was very young when he was born though .

Countingthegreyhairs · 17/07/2008 13:11

sorry for delay in reply Longtime, rl intervened there for a bit! Thanks - dd back to bouncing form - back to stage today.

44 and 5 respectively (I procreated late in life)

happy to cat you details re school (Belgian, local, private) or feel free to email me on [email protected]

Cheers (but with hot chocolate rather than beer today - it's freeeezing for July!!)

ScaryTeacher

You are obviously much younger than me ;-) As I was in the last year when it was the girls grammar, the year after it became mixed and was renamed Cams Hill.

LongtimeinBrussels · 17/07/2008 17:02

Thanks Counting, I'll do that!
