Puberty - need some practical advice for DD

DD is 10. She is very small and slight and the sort of girl who I would have thought puberty was at least 4 years away. However she has some new hairs growing which she delighted in showing me.

We have a brilliant book on gorwing up and reproduction and I am quite open and matter of fact....

However.. she now has one long underarm hair - do I show her how to shave? Also, should I give her a period pack - some towels and spare knickers for school bag? She is relatively immature physically and socially. Help!

I showed DD how to use underarm cream, when the time was right. And yes, I think that it might be a good idea to give her a 'period pack' too. After dd had her talk in year 5, she told me it was essential that she carried it around everywhere!

DD at end of yr 5 now so makes sense.

Shall get her some cream - probably safer than a razor in the hands of an unco-ordinated little soul!

My baby is growing up...

Rotten, isn't it? DD is nearly 13 now, but I remember how sad I was. She has found her own way with a razor over the last year tbh. I just left all the stuff to hand in the bathroom.

MML - how old was she when all this started? DD is still so young.

I think periods generally start about two years after pubic hair, so thats probably a good way off especially if shes small.

I would show her how to shave or which ever method of removing hair you decide on. Much better than her making a pigs ear of it, wish someone had shown me. Took years of practice!

Txs both. Just needed reassurance - all so long time ago for me and my mother never mentioned anything of any use.

DD started her periods the first day of the summer holidays last year, so she was 11 and 10 mths. The hair, as dance said, started a couple of years ago.

OK - sigh of relief that I only have to deal with one thing at a time

Oh, forgot to mention that the mood swings start coming thick and fast between now and then, too!
