have a thread in chat going on, mainly trying to work out if my DD1 (14) is right when she says.....

""Everyone gets mooooooooooooooooooooooore than me"

LAUGHLOTS · 04/07/2008 10:43

i give my 12 yr dd £30 per month. she has to pay for her phone credit and any activities with friends, makeup etc. although she says that isnt enough, and like you said everyone gets more than her... so i would be also be interested to know what is the norm.

pagwatch · 04/07/2008 10:48

My 15 (just) year old DS gets £10 paid into his account every week but also gets some money if he babysits for us.

He has to pay for trips out/snacks/games etc etc ( so comes back here a lot with his friends ) but I buy his clothes.

I find it hard as grew up very very poor but we now have a lot of money and it is easy to just give him stuff. But I want him to be sensible and value things.
DH and i talk about this a lot. It is a hard one to get perfectly right I think.

I tend to think we are getting close as he thinks before he spends money and is saving too.

pagwatch · 04/07/2008 10:49

I have a 12 year old too but he has SN and doesn't understand money.
I buy him LOADS

Psychomum5 · 04/07/2008 11:02

ok...................

well......DD1 gets £5 from us P/W, earns £5 from being a dance assistant at her dance school, we pay £5 every couple of weeks-ish for her mobile (she is very sparing with that), plus we pay for all her clothes (except if she is going out and wants something frivolous) and undies etc.

she (with her money) has to fund make-up (well, she tends to steal borrow mine in fact), going out, sweets and little bits.

she reckons she is poor, my friends think she is doing about right, DH reckons we give too much!!!

DS1 age 12 gets £40 a month, and DH and I pay for his phone top ups, clubs etc

DS2 age 7 gets £20 a month

Psychomum5 · 04/07/2008 11:11

kimi...I will fast forward past your post if my girls come read over my shoulder at all.

just out of interest, what does your 7yo buy with his pocket money???

OP posts:
Freckle · 04/07/2008 11:15

Have answered on your other thread, but the boys get half their age in pounds, so 14yo gets £7pw, etc. We pay for activities and clothes. I also pay for phone top-ups, but, as they rarely use their phones, this is fine by me. If they start to abuse that, they will be responsible for their own top-ups.

DS1 (12) and DS2 (10) get £16 a month each paid into their bank account.

That's all I can afford.

They don't have mobile phones.

she not doing too badly then really, going on this.

I might add a little extra for bus fares, and maybe save me dropping her everywhere then.....she will be told however.

she forgets how much dance costs, and scouts, plus the shows and camps for both!

ds (12) gets 20 euro per month. I buy his clothes, pay for school lunch and he has only just got a mobile, and I put 50 euro credit on it when I bought it. He only uses it for texts!

He has to do jobs for his money.

Sometimes he will forgo it and I'll buy him something from Amazon instead. He's choosing to have it in sterling for the next 3 months so that he can buy himself things when we go to London and the museums for a week in the summer.

MarsLady · 04/07/2008 12:05

My 15yo gets £35 a month
My 13yo gets £25 a month
My 9 yo gets 90p a week
The DTs have destroyed so many things that they are currently running with an enormous deficeit!

They all wear uniform so their money is for phone credit, socialising and clothes etc.

Psychomum5 · 04/07/2008 12:10

mars.....when do you think the twins will start getting pocket money then???

or will they forever owe you do ya reckon???

Without a doubt!

kingprawntikka · 04/07/2008 13:32

My 15 and 12 year olds gets £10 a month from us and £10 a month from my parents. Plus an extra £4 a month from my parents and £2 pounds a month from my gran for sweets and chocolate. So thats 26 pounds a month each. i buy all their clothes and give them money for things like swimming and cinema trips with their friends.

juuule · 04/07/2008 13:40

I give my 15yo and 17yo their bus fare and dinner money for school/college. Anything extra they have to ask for. Usually, they pay for things out of the money they earn from their part-time jobs.
