low moods (Pms) does it get better?

DD15 moods have been up and down since last year. She is seeing a therapist as there was some self harm last year.

I noticed it is worse around her period, feeling low, or irritable, anxious, insecure, her appetite changes. I told her I have noticed it is worse around her period time and she said it is not that. I know it is definitely worse around her period. She looses her appetite.

I am taking her to the dr. What else can I do to help her?

will the minipill help? Which one?

My daughter really struggled with this, though it took her a long time to clearly identify it as related to her cycle. She started taking the pill in her early 20s and is like a new person! Should have done it earlier.

Get her to the GP, with all the details and patterns you have noticed.

Thank you. Which pill is your DD taking?

At the beginning I didn’t realise it was PMS, but then started keeping an eye and her moods get really bad around her period.

Yesterday she was feeling very low and I know her period is due in a few days. Previous month she was very irritable, anxious, insecure, it started around her period and lasted about 4 days.

Use a period tracker app and get her to record her moods, feelings & any physical symptoms daily. Often there are cycles within cycles, eg every 3rd month is really bad. Keep an eye out for PMDD which is an extreme version of PMS. Also, the pill may make things worse but she won’t know until she tries it. Bless her, good luck.

Thank you. Yes, a bit concerned about the pill as you don’t know if It is going to agree with you or not. I am trying with well teen her plus but only started recently so giving it a few months.

My daughter got put on the combined pill and takes 2 month back to back then a 4 day break so 21 days 21 days 4 day break and has been much better around that part of the month.

Thank you. Is this Yasmin? How old is your daughter. I am concerned about using contraceptives so young but if nothing else works may have to try. With GCSE approaching she needs to feel 100 percent

hi no I’m not Yasmin. My daughter is 19.

I found that oil of evening primrose with starflower calmed my PMDD. It did take about 3 months to kick in. Not sure if she can take it but worth looking into. Without sounding dramatic, it was life changing for me.

DD is just due her period and going through the symptoms atm; she gets anxious, irritable, insecure, negative.

I am given her well teen girl plus with omega 3, but only going through second box. It may take time to build up in her body.

She is so different the rest of the month, calmed and relaxed.

Dr appointment booked for this week.🙏

Following with interest as I think my DD could be similar. Please let us know how you get on.

Rigevidon. The vitamins didn’t do anything for her.

Thank you. A bit concerned as she is so young for the pill. Are there any side effects? If nothing else works it is worth trying though; as it is an awful thing to go through, her periods only became more estable lately.

I need to get her in that contraceptive pill sooner rather than later; as the symptoms she experiences are not very nice. Right in the middle of it now. The anxiety, the insecurity, increase or loss of appetite, low moods. I feel for her and I feel for me. Trying to remain patient, calm, reassuring. I feel more for her though as I am not sure she fully understand what she experiences is pms; even though I told her; I think she is fully controlled by hormones atm. Please period come soon 🙏
