Festival Security

Does anyone know of a way teenagers can keep their valuables safe at a festival without having to pay every day for one of those lock boxes?

Dont take anything valuble in the first place. Cheap secondhand burner phone and a single emergency cash card in a secret pocket at all times.

Don't take anything they can't keep on their person. What sort of things are you talking about?

I'd assume you're not talking about general camping kit, food etc. I'm sure that sort of thing does get stolen, but it's not practical to lock up.

Then their phone, in their pocket or in something like one of those Uniqlo bags. Also bank cards and any essential medication. I would have thought most festival food stalls would be card only these days although I don't know what happens if poor signal, system down etc.

What other valuables are there, that would be essential?

Agree with PP- just don’t take any really. The only thing I’d take is my phone and a spare card just incase, most festivals now are cashless so no need to carry cash anyway, keep it zipped away in the internal pouch of a cross body bag type thing and should all be fine.

Don’t take any valuables that won’t fit in a bum bag!

It's the ancillaries like battery back up or cables and chargers mainly. Just wondering if there was a simple bit of kit that couple be used at the tent?

I dont lock up battery packs/cables at a festival. I just leave it in my bag at the tent or stuff it down the end of my sleeping bag. They're not mega expensive to replace (probably not even worth nicking) and most festivals I've been too have the facility to rent one if theirs goes missing.

a backpack.

Valuables in a bum bag that isn't taken off unless asleep, in which case it's stuffed down the bottom of his sleeping bag.
Doesn't take anything else of worth. Power pack probably stuffed away in his rucksack, or in sleeping bag.

Geneticsbunny · 04/06/2026 11:48

There are usually emergency charging stations at festivals so they wont need a battery back up.
Anything which can fit into a tent is nickable and tents cant be made secure so the only option is to carry anything around the whole time. Tbh i have had stuff stolen from a tent whilst i was asleep in it so i would advise putting things into the bottom of sleeping bags whilst sleeping.

Never “lock” a tent - it can be cut past in a second and advertises that there is something to steal

Proper stealable valuables should be carried, and when asleep either stuffed down to the bottom of a long sleeping bag, or bagged as a supplementary pillow at the head

If there is a camp bed then things can be below the bed (ensuring that it doesn’t poke you when you lie on it)
Things left behind in an empty tent should not be easy to grab / take. (Eg not in a backpack at the door). A messy tent is good at making things less attractive / less easy to steal - but has the disadvantage of living like that in a tight space
Things can be stuffed among a bag of clothing
