DD15 said she feels she is falling behind and thinking of start taking coffee. I suggested to start with tea and try to go to bed earlier, do a bit more excercise.

I think they need around 10 hours sleep per day at this age.

What is your teen bed time routine and how many hours does they sleep?

When I was her age I used to go to bed at 9pm and woke up around 7am.

My 14 year old daughter goes to bed around 11.30/12 most nights and is up around 7/7.15. Although decided this week that she needs to be in bed earlier so trying for 10.30pm but it is unlikely to happen! Even with screen time on phone etc she potters about for hours at night! She is seeing CAMHS at the moment and I'm sure the consultant said 7-8 hours was okay.

DS gets 8 hours on a school day and manages perfectly fine without caffeine. How much sleep is your DD getting?what does she mean by falling behind? I think there are probably better solutions than caffeine.

DS17 says he goes to sleep about 11 and is up at 7.30 during the week. He makes a conscious effort to get at least 8 hours

DS13 does 10 - 6.15

Dd 16 sleeps 10.45-7 on a school day, so just over 8 hours. She’s a high achiever at school so it’s clearly enough for her. She sleeps 12 hours a night at weekends/school holidays.

I think with my older teens the issue is more getting them off their screens a few hours before bed. I hugely see the difference when they sit and chat to us/ play poker/ a board game or watch tv (yes it’s a screen but not in their face!). On a day off both go to bed at around midnight up about ten- working or school in bed about half ten up at seven.

Dd14 is usually asleep by 10.30 and up at 7 during the week. On the weekends she’ll stay up later but if she’s not doing her sport will sleep in to 10-11am.
she tells me that some of her friends send her snaps at midnight regularly. Dd trains for her sport 4 nights a week so she’s tired and needs the rest.

I think she is getting around 7 hours school days. I think screen time and TikTok may have something to do with reduced concentration.

We will encourage a better routine and out more restrictions on phone, encourage more exercise.
