Hi , my 18 year old DD has always suffered with long heavy painful periods they can last up to 9 days . I have suggested that she goes to see the Dr for a chat and possible investigations if needed .
She has mentioned going on the pill but is worried about side effects weight gain ,headaches etc
Im just wondering if any of your girls are on the pill and which one . Are any with little side effects ?
I know that she will need to see a Dr Thankyou

I have 2 DDs, 21 & 18.
My eldest takes Lucette and has no problems at all.
My youngest has heavy, painful periods. She has just been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and prescribed Eloine pill, and Mefenamic Acid to help with the pain. She seems to be coping well with both if these so far.

Thankyou for your reply Mefenamic Acid doesn’t help the pain for my DD , she takes Feminax but I’m worried that she’s taking too many .

Gedarel 30/150 combined pill for the exact same reason. No side effects for me and have took continuously for 6 years. Was prescribed regividon first but I honestly made me crazy. What I would say is try it, but if one brand doesn’t suit try another, don’t tar all to the same brush x

I went on the pill at 16 to control my period pain. Turned out I had endometriosis but did not gain weight nor did I have any headaches. My period pain was horrific, I couldn't sleep through it so I was willing to try anything to help it.

With the Feminax I would ensure she is taking it with food. I would provide snacks so she can easily do that. I ruined my stomach (ulcers) from taking prescription ibuprofen with no stomach protection meds like they would prescribe now. That of course was a long time ago but as she is consistently taking Feminax I would protect her stomach.

Other things to consider, plug in heat pad, light weight and remains hot. Also a TENs machine, you can hire them but they are not that expensive to buy. Mine is currently £40 on Amazon and has been a life saver.
