I hadn't watched the films and I really enjoyed it.
If you can, sit in District 1 or 2 for a fun extra feature!

I actually find Hunger Games really distressing, both the book and the film.
My kids were reading it as early teens, and so I read it and as I said I found it really distressing.

So I would be cautious at 13. But you say he loves book, so I assume he will be fine.

Age 13 should be fine especially as they ve read the books. It’s a great show.

I found the stage show less violent than the book personally. I agree I wouldn't necessarily advise it for a 13 year old in any case. But as the OP's child has read the series, I think the stage show is ok.

I went to the show with a 12 year old, she liked it a lot. I hadn’t read the books or seen the films so went in knowing only the basic premise. Having read lukewarm reviews I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, found it engrossing and entertaining. Having now watched the film, the play follows the plot closely, watching the film just before seeing the show would have been detrimental to the show I think, so personally I wouldn’t recommend that.

Took my 13 DD a few months ago. She’d read books and watched films, I hadn’t. Defo go for district 1 or 2. We had 2 and going again in a few months, D1 this time

My 13 year old really enjoyed it, but had both read the books and seen the film. I don't think you need to have seen the film, but having read the book probably helps.

My 13 year old read the books, and loved the stage show, she is quite sensitive but enjoyed the moral aspects of the books. Seeing it brought to life was amazing for her. I have only seen the film but also thought the stage show was excellent, despite reading lukewarm reviews.

The technical aspects of the staging was really incredible, and the actors were physically taking risks which took my breath away a couple of times. It was definitely intense as a live show but, given the darkness of the storyline, to be expected.
