Hoping that someone will be able to advise me in a situation with a school student who is in their first year of GCSE teaching, and at a stage where there are a lot of academic tests through the terms.
It looks as if we will need to set up a care plan with the SEN at DD's secondary school, based on some problems that have arisen since the (probable) flu in December. DD has never had a care plan before, although had semi-serious auditory problems from age 0-3 which were very well monitored and have not caused major health issues since.
I reported absence - think it was 3 days - in writing in December, as well as some very relevant GP advice that we had at the time. I did say her hearing would be affected while taking medication. There are other side issues in the mix that need investigation, and I asked that all teachers should be alerted to that.
There have been 2 instances where test results have been returned (unsurprisingly, not good, and not normal within overall year's performance), and she has been penalised for them. In one test, she had not covered a topic that was in it because of absence. She's been ticked off for her performance and is upset.
It looks as if we will need to have a care plan and GP backup to get the school to take this 'new' disadvantage seriously. With one of the side issues which may be cardiac related, it looks as if this is inevitable anyway. I have requested resources to cover the missed topics and also a meeting with the school. There are 2 emails that relate to this, with the original one, but it's clear the message has not been passed on
What do I need to know or ask? Either school or GP? What would I need to be ready for?
