Babysitting

My daughter is 15 and wants to start babysitting. Would be local and for family friends. What do teen babysitters charge. Won’t be doing late nights just a few hours at a time.

£10 per hour is the going rate round here.

We used to use a neighbour often when she charged £5. We'd provide pizza, soft drinks, snacks etc whilst kids crafted or a watched tv. Her prices doubled to £10 and we never used again. It just became unaffordable for us, plus I do begrudge paying virtually the same amount as a registered childminder per hour, when a teenager has fewer qualifications etc. My point is, depending what she wishes to charge may influence how many parents wish to utilise her services. Equally, she'd need to ensure that the jobs weren't too crazy demanding.

If I'm using a teenagers babysitting services, I'm providing extra food/benefits and making sure it's as simple as possible so paying £10 per hour on top is not so attractive.

£12ish ph round here (Home Counties) for under 16s - though normally that’s with a parent still in the house 🫠😅 Still an outright bargain compared to the price of qualified/DBS checked/experienced sitters who are around £20-25. It’s massively area dependent though I imagine.

I was thinking £7.50 an hour. We are in the north. I agree if she charges too much she won’t get much work. I’ve offered to be on standby if there are any issues when she first gets started.
When I did it when I was in my teens the parent just gave me whatever they thought and I never queried it.
