Does anyone else’s teenagers just not hear the alarm in the morning? Is it possible to just be able to hear it? I’ve never missed an alarm so not something I have experienced

I'm an adult and can still sleep through alarms without hearing them. No hearing problems, I'm just a deep sleeper.

How do you make sure you get up in the morning for work? I am trying to give them independence and sick of having to drag covers off

I use multiple alarms all set on my phone and a sunrise alarm clock.

The sunrise alarm clock is excellent, the phone alarms hideous but if they're not they don't work.

I used to have up to 10(!) alarms on my phone with the ring tone I find the most disruptive/annoying. They're each set with snooze activated and my phone let's me set the number of times snooze can be repeated so I choose the maximum number.

Have noticed I'm in REM or deep sleep at wake up time so I think my natural sleep cycle is definitely to blame. The sunrise alarm clock makes a big difference though - it brings me out of deep sleep so I respond to the alarms and since getting it I use far fewer on my phone!

It's a much nicer way of waking up.

When my other half stays over he also brings me a cup of tea which helps!

Just remembered I also set my alarms for an odd time like 3 and 7 minutes past the hour, then 16 and 28 for example, because my brain is more likely to think 'shit I need to get up now' than if they're set on the hour or 5, 10, 15, 20 past etc

I bought my DD a sunrise alarm. She did wake up with the normal alarm, but it often shocked her awake, she turned it off, and then would fall back asleep. The sunrise alarm is gentler and by the time it makes a noise, I think she feels more genuinely awake because the light has come on gradually.

It's definitely really helped her. If she's not up by a certain time, I stick my hand round the door and turn the main light on.

Thanks both, he wants to get up earlier than what I would normally get up at so he wants me to set an alarm to wake him up 🤦🏻‍♀️ which I’m not keen on doing as I value my sleep!

Try a Fitbit which has a vibration alarm, might work and doesn't wake anyone else.

You can also get novelty alarm clocks that wheel or fly away when they go off and can only be turned off by being physically collected - forcing the sleeper to chase it around the room

Might make a good Christmas present
