My daughter is really suffering with acne. The GP prescribed a cream called duac and when that didn’t work she prescribed the pill. It’s just getting worse and I’m willing to pay for a dermatologist at this point. And recommendations for people who specialise in teenage acne? We are in London.

Have you thought about Chinese herbal medicine? A colleague tried it for her dd and rates it highly- she’s a dr and an academic friend doing research recommended it.

she uses Avicenna.co.uk, they have clinics in London.

personally that would have been my next step as we had tried everything with dd. She had bad facial acne, plus fairly severe across her back and shoulders. She saw a TikTok though about dairy and skin, so I agreed to let her try 2 weeks cutting it out.

i was doubtful but it was dramatic. Visible improvement within days. By about 6 months almost clear, and a year even the redness and scarring had gone.

a lot of other issues cleared up as well so ended up with an allergy diagnosis. I’d never have put 2 and 2 together though.

Have a look at HCAs dermatologists - they have clinics at London Bridge and Bank - suggest pick one that also does NHS work as in my experience they tend to be better trained and qualified. You should be able to see their profiles.

I looked for a dermatologist last year for my son who was suffering from bad acne. I don't think you need a brilliant dermatologist, just one that works with teenagers and in my experience, there will be some that specialise in that age group while others don't see under 18s. My son was referred by the GP for Roaccutane (we could have waited for the NHS appointment to come through, here in Brighton it's only 6 weeks, but by that point I was desperate). We went to a private skin clinic and paid for about three appointments. My GP surgery did the blood tests. There is a lot said about the side effects of roaccutane but for my son it has been complete magic - 6 months on his skin is beautiful, just a little redness left that is fading. It does need to be monitored by the dermatologist and as his mother, we did talk about how he was feeling etc. as it can potentially affect mood. Things are a little different for girls as they need to be sure not to get pregnant and also are just more hormonal. Feel free to DM me, but all i can say is, don't let her suffer or risk serious scarring when there is a cure available.
