Dd will be 17 soon and we struggle to work out what to do as she has two or three pockets of friends from different schools and activities and they don’t really meld well together.

we’ve done Nando’s before but she doesn’t really enjoy worrying about everyone being comfortable. So many friends have done bowling that it felt’s a bit repetitive.

I just wondered what other people do at this age…

do they still have "parties" like that at their age??
Can she not celebrate with different groups of friends separately?

PrincessOfPreschool · 10/09/2025 16:57

We stopped at 16. Meal out and shopping with friends in Central London. But minigolf is fun. There's a great one called Puttshack. Or ice skating?

FallingIntoAutumn · 10/09/2025 16:59

Might be a stupid question.
Does she want to do anything?

Needmorelego · 10/09/2025 17:05

What does she like doing? Does she actually want to "do" something?
It's her birthday so her choice (within reason).
Going to Pizza Hut seems popular among my 17 year olds group of friends.
I can't even remember what we did for my daughter's 17th and it was only 4 months ago 🦥

gingercat02 · 10/09/2025 17:16

DS is 17, he came out for dinner with us. He and his friends don't really do birthdays, they don't even do cards! Girls may be different.
Occasionally they might go to Nandos or something if the birthday person wants to, but they organise it themselves.
I'm waiting for the 18th parties 🙈🤮

PrincessOfPreschool · 10/09/2025 20:29

WTF? Drinking, cigars, and introducing to many boys? Umm ok

@ByGreyWriter odd choices.
My 17 year old likes Pokémon cards, milkshakes and has met plenty of boys before in her life 😁
She'd think I've gone mad if I offered her that.

Odd post

thank you for your suggestions, wasn’t sure if yours was serious Greywriter?

mini golf is really good idea thanks.

she doesn’t really know what she wants to do, she loves to see her friends but getting them together can be uncomfortable as they are not easily mixed somehow!

If she’s keen to be driving I’d see if her (and Maybe her friends) want to do a driving experience. Go karting, quad biking, race track experience, off roading. That sort of thing.

FallingIntoAutumn · 11/09/2025 16:03

Have you got a battle boom bar type place? If they don’t mix easily it’s going to be a case of keeping them busy isn’t it

Cynic17 · 11/09/2025 16:06

I think at 17, the last thing a young person wants is for their parents to be organising them a "birthday party"! Why can't she just have a view nights out with different friends, whatever they enjoy, and they can plan it themselves?

wildfellhall · 11/09/2025 16:18

I agree cynic17, good point well made

I wasn’t joking about go karts. It’s what my dd did for her 17th.
