Sons 18th birthday

What did you do for your son’s 18th birthday? Do boys want parties? My son doesn’t. But they seem popular and probably expensive. He goes to school with some wealthy kids who get parties, cars, holidays etc. I’m a single mum. He’s recently been diagnosed with Crohn’s and has had a hard time. We’ve not been away for 2 years as it’s hard going away with Crohn’s.

What does he want to do?

He said all he wants is a car. Which I was probably going to have to get at some point as he has his test soon. But I’m struggling with what to do on the day. It’s just me and him.

does he like music? What about a gig and a nice meal together?

My DS didn’t want a party but he went out for a curry (his favourite) with some friends and we paid. We also went out as a family for a nice meal.

Happy birthday to your DS.

I'm paying for DD to go bowling with some friends.

You could cook him a full breakfast, or take him to a decent cafe for a breakfast. That's always a nice treat.

I don't think you need to do anything too extravagent but you can make it a special day by having some nice food and maybe a cake.

Takeaway, as he had exams coming up. He didn't want a massive fuss. He isn't like that.

And a birthday cake. He requested a home made Victoria sponge.

I don’t think any of DD’s group of friends had an 18th party (though she has been to plenty of parties throughout the year).

Most/(all?) are either suitably rich or have part-time jobs so they tended to invite friends out for a meal at the restaurant of their choice and then shared the bill amongst themselves. Sports fixtures/jobs/Uni visits/exams restricted numbers to a certain extent.

Good luck with the driving test.
