Tampon help for my dd

NC for this. We are on holiday and my teen dd really wants to swim today. She has tried using a tampon but didn't manage. She wants to try again. Is there a teen friendly guide (that's not pervy) I can show her? I haven't used them for years and have already given her my best advice.

There are plenty of teen friendly videos on YouTube.

Sounds obvious but has she tried reading the instructions in the pack? I remember studying them intensely as a kid. I started with the mini ones if that helps. Then when she can manage that size up to her flow requirements.

Mini ones by lillets - non applicator are much easier. They do a range specifically for teens

I agree just get the smallest ones and the non applicator ones are less faff.

Had this recently, dd didnt want to use tampons so after a bit of a trek, we got period swimwear. Worked a treat

I can’t use the non applicator ones. I remember when I was a teen I didn’t realise you had to insert the applicator and then push up. I thought you just aimed it at the hole and then pushed. It seemed really obvious to everyone else so they never thought to mention it.

I didn't know that even existed - thanks!

Thank you everyone. She only had a few tampons and not the box / instructions. I found lillets instructions online and she had a read. She's still not convinced she did it right but she was comfortable enough to go swimming so it worked!

Personally, I always found the applicator type easier to use. Unless she is confident with her body- she may not want to push her finger inside with the non applicator type- I certainly didn't at 12/13.

My mum recommended a tiny, pea sized amount of lube on the end which stopped any dragging and really helped too. I had a crash course in using them before a school camp which included swimming/canoe/sailing etc.

Glad she got on okay. It might be worth trying applicator ones to see if easier - I have never got on with non app but fine no issues with applicator ones. Would recommend Tampax Pearl (they do in a Lite variety in Boots or regular, lites are very slim so might be good for younger ones / lighter flow). As others have said period swimwear is also an option 👙🩱
