Roblox, tik tok, snapchat

DD14.5 has uses Roblox to play with her friends on the laptop sometimes snd also plays alone. Do you allow your kids to play it? I read there could be inappropriate content.

We agreed a max of 15min on tik tok on her mobile. But I read there could be inappropriate content there too,

We also agreed 1 hour max in snap chat and made her account private and put her in ghost mode.

Wifi goes off at 11pm too.

She has a max of 3.5 hours on mobile phone during holidays; but not restriction on laptop or ipad, apart from putting everything away around 10pm before going to bed.

Do you manage to keep your kids safe online? What controls do you have? And how old are your kids?

Shes nearly 15. I think you need to calm down a bit.

The best way to protect your kids is to be more involved in what they're interested in. Reading an article that tells you there is inappropriate content in roblox or tiktok isn't really much use. There is inappropriate content everywhere. But what is your daughter consuming? Are you concerned about the content of the games, or the people she's interacting with? What is she playing on roblox? Does she make friends there, then chat to them on WhatsApp? Have you asked to play her games with her? Equally, what side of tiktok is she on? Does she send you videos she likes? Are you on tiktok? If you don't understand the platforms she's using, you need to use them yourself to find out how they work and be able to have conversations with her from a place of knowledge. Reading about it isn't good enough.

You are right and I appreciate your message.

We have to had some conversations with her about keeping safe and reduce time in social media and mobile phone as it was impacting her mental health. This made me a bit nervous. Snapchat in particular wasn’t great as she was feeling left out and like she had no friends, etc, which is not the case.

Agree she is growing up and needs to learn to keep safe and look after herself; there are still quite vulnerable at that age so it is trying to get the right balance.

We have also spent more time with her and doing things as a family and this has also helped.

DD18 made her own decision of not using Roblox, tik tok or snapchat chat for a few years now. I don’t think she ever used them much really.

Thank you. That is the problem,I am not so
much into technology or gaming and don’t use the platforms.

TikTok: she watches videos her friends shared, funny videos she said. She agreed she only needed 15min a day.

Roblox: she said she is not stupid and doesn’t talk to anybody she doesn’t know. She said there is not inappropriate content. Mainly plays alone or with her friends. But it worries me it could be addictive, but she listens when I asked her to stop, go to bed, etc.

Snapchat: this was impacting her but having some conversations with her about social media helped and also reducing the time on it. She agreed it could be more dangerous as other people can add you, check where you are, etc. So we put her in ghost mode and made her account private.

I noticed a strange man add her in WhatsApp but she blocked him straight away. This was last year but she never told me. I just noticed by checking her mobile.

Seems like I just need to chill a bit, continue talking to her and trust her. And learn a bit more about the games she plays and videos she watches.

She asked her sister if she wanted to play Roblox but DD1 said she doesn’t play Robblox. Maybe I can play with her.
