Hello

We've been advised by CAMHS to remove all blades / sharps from DD room, as she's self harming.

DD says this will not stop her and she will absolutely just find something different to use.

what did you do in this situation, and did it work?

Thank you. And solidarity to any other parents or there going through this. It's hell.

Is this something many teens go through?

It’s hugely on the increase- apparently something like 1 in 4 teen girls will self harm at some point.

Why?!?

Why what?

People use self harm as a coping strategy. In the same way people use alcohol,
drugs, and exercise and sex and shopping.

Not only remove the tools, but lock away anything sharp in the house. Crockery, shavers, tool kit with nails.

I was told the same yes I did remove because that's the advice to try and keep them safe. Ds did find other ways though. I hope your OK and that your dd gets help soon
