I would be grateful for advice on treatments for PCOS for my teenage daughter who is 14.5. Have anyone got experience with myo inositol? Or would folid acid help? Yasmin ?

As someone with PCOS, symptoms started at 13, diagnosed at 19.
Vitamins won't help at all, she might need actual medication like Metformin.
Speak to your GP

Starynightskyblackforest · 28/06/2025 16:33

Thank you. Did the medication help to release all symptoms? Regulate the period? Do you take it permanently?

Myointisol is really worth a try! Can regulate cycles and cure ammarenhea - limited studies so far but all very positive. Worked for me.

TheFunnyPinkWriter · 28/06/2025 16:38

I took it for 6 months, it made me incredibly ill but I did lose the excess weight.
I'm 39 now and honestly, nothing has ever worked to stop the hair growth or weight gain.
The only thing that regulated my periods was having my children, I've been pretty regular since then but it was awful before that. Going on the pill made my periods even more erratic.
I was given a less than 5% chance of conceiving naturally and had a marker on my records for IVF after 6 months of TTC, I never needed it thankfully as I conceived both of mine naturally, my 1st within 7 months (1 miscarriage previously) and my 2nd within weeks of starting TTC.

I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my late 20s and struggling to get pregnant. DD was diagnosed at 13. We both went on the pill to manage the period problems and, in her case, acne. The main thing that makes the biggest difference to us both is a low carb, low sugar, low dairy diet.

Sorry to hear treatments didn’t work. Glad you conceived easily

I take Myo-insitol gummy form and it's really alleviated my issues, alongside watching what I eat avoiding carbs and sugar where able. It took 3-4 months to see a real difference. Best of luck!

Thanks. I think is worth a try as you say and see if it works before trying anything else

Which one do you take?

I take novomins, Myo/ D-Chiro inositol. You can find them directly on the novomins website, I get them on subscription. They seem slightly expensive but I take 2 a day usually together before I eat and my acne has cleared up, can't say much about the hair haven't noticed much difference there but my periods are regular, lighter and it has changed my life in that regard. I hope that helps!

Does the diet help with all the symptoms? Regulate periods? Or only weight gain.

My daughter is slim; the main issues are acne, some hair growth (not a lot) and irregular periods

Thanks. Going to to research it; not sure if there is age restriction

I was diagnosed at 19 after years of horrible acne hair everywhere and very irregular periods. Dianette changed me over night. Still pretty hairy but my acne went within 3-4 days. After a few years they wouldn't let me have dianette so put me on Yasmin which I loved until I had DC.

A low gi diet is vital with pcos too.

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 28/06/2025 18:50

Terrible mother that I am, I have no idea what her pill is called. Definitely not Yasmin, begins with an M (I think!) Dietary restrictions help massively with her skin, although for her weight is an issue too. If she eats too much sugar/dairy/carbs her acne has a massive flare up.

Wondering if 14 is too young to go on Yasmin?

will see what is better yasmin or myo inositol

Hey! My DD hasn't dealt with PCOS herself, but my niece has gone through it and it's really tricky. I'd recommend reading this article: https://weareluna.app/parents/guides/periods-and-hormones/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos-teen-girl/

I find lots of the parenting guides on that website really helpful because they're all written by doctors. Hope this helps

MumzillaReturns · 30/06/2025 18:27

Thanks for sharing this, a great read and will look into the platform more.

At what age do you think it's suitable for? DD is 11 x

Hi,
my dd17 got diagnosed last year. We chose not to do birth control. She takes various supplements but inositol wss the game changer. She had two blood test, one before diagnosis and one 6 months after when we started with supplements and the
Improvement in levels was significant. For pcos which doesn’t have many treatments, i think trying supplements can be useful

That is great to hear. Can you please tell me which supplements does she take including brand?

Winder if DD is still too young for inositol.

Thanks a lot

I take these ones too and they are helping (although not quite as much as the metformin did). But now that our family is complete, I didn't really want to go back onto metformin if I could avoid it.

To be honest I was diagnosed by accident, I never had a follow up with the GP so I didn't have the option for anything else. It has taken a good few months to see the difference with them, they said it can take a year or more to really gain the benefits something to do with it building up in your system. Hope you keep seeing positive benefits with them x

She takes
new leaf inositol

the rest she changes brand depending on what’s cheapest

dandelion tea ( got rid of last of acne)
root burdock extract ( after starting this periods became regular)
