what do your teenagers eat?

I know some people might be at this if they think children should eat most things by teenage years. but you'd be suprised!

My 15 yr old does eat everything, the only thing he's ever not liked are oysters, and I'm with him on that. This isn't a smug post, just a fact. I know that lots of his pals are much pickier and I've been very lucky with DS/DD and their eating habits. Only thing DD doesn't eat is liver (tho she's never tried oysters!)

Ah! you've been very lucky!

My 15-yr-old is a lot better than he used but is still capable of eating frozen pizza 6 nights on the trot

However he is interested in cooking and is doing food tech for GCSE, so he has widened his horizons a bit, but still tends to smother most food in either ketchup or mustard

He still doesn't eat most standard sandwich fillings eg cheese, ham, eggs; or most salad except lettuce - it makes packed lunches difficult . He's going on German & French exchanges in the autumn and they rely heavily on packed lunches, I can't imagine how he'll survive...

My 12 year old would also very happily eat pizza at every meal, I have always told myself that a vitamin is still a vitamin if it's coated with ketchup.
His appetite is huge, presumably due to major growth spurt and I no longer have to worry that snacking will spoil his appetite.
My boys are so, so much better than they used to be though. I've always tried to educate them about food and involve them in cooking and we can at least have family meals now without having to do something different for one or both children.
Packed lunches remain difficult here - only grated cheese or grated cheese is acceptable.

My 12 year old has a very healthy appetite. She eats anything and everything and will try new foods all the time. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that DH and I are big foodies, so from a very young age, she was eating what we eat. Her current favourite is spinach with balsamic vinegar on it! She's not keen on eating crisps or chocolate, but again only because we don't. I don't stop her at all. If she wants it, she eats it, but she's very good at knowing when she needs a proper meal. Last Saturday, she had a pj day with her mates, which involved popcorn, chocolate, sweets and coke. She ASKED for salad for dinner, since she'd eaten rubbish all day.

my 13 year old is an agel she will eat everything. loves fish and eats all her veg(fruit is hard for due to her sn)
my 16 yr old ds on the other hand will eat a hand full of runner beans and no other veg. will eat chicken, chips and spaggetti at every dinner. peanut butter sandwiches only.
he is getting better but still very fussy.
it makes me lol as he is the nt one.

I'm very lucky in that both my boys (12 and 13) are very good eaters, particularly the older one.

I had alot of trouble with DS2 when he was a toddler and also in early school years, but I simply kept presenting him with the food we ate and not making him anything special. Once he realised he wasn't getting anything else, he ate what was put in front of him and now he'll eat just about anything.

DS1 will try anything - he even ate snails and frog legs in France, which is something even I wouldn't do!

belgo · 27/05/2008 07:21

I think I was fussiest with food when I was a teenager.

minniedot · 28/05/2008 19:57

My ds is 16, if I'm in the house he will eat whatever I make him. If I'm out he lives of cereal and innocent smoothies, he may push the boat out and butter some toast.

13 year old dd is now much better than she used to be. She's now decided that she's totally veggie again (was completely veggie until she was 5, then dabbled but didn't like meat much) but she also doesn't eat cheese and dislikes most egg dishes. SO what DOES she eat?!
She loves: veggie stir fries, with quorn, nuts, tofu or omelette strips for protein
: veggie curries and rice, with lentils or chickpeas
: falafel, pittas, salad etc
: pizza and salad
: Thai-style noodle dishes
: baked potatoes, sweet potatoes
: quorn sausages or Cauldron sausages with mash and vege
: veggie sausage casserole
: anything lently - especially lentils cooked in red wine with parsnips!
