Stroppy teens and rain coats

Please help, let me know what summer weight rain coat does your year 8 / year 8 teen girl wear in wet weather? Cos apparently I'm ruining DDs life currently by suggesting any rain coat she owns while she waits at bus stops in the pouring rain... thanks!

Teens don’t wear coats.

this is an immutable fact of nature and not worth trying to change

One of mine will wear a thick coat in the height of summer "in case it gets cold"... the other - coats are social outcast territory.

Both mine had a Helly Hansen and also a packable lightweight one from Uniqlo
However, I left it to them whether to wear one or not

A rain coat/anorak is part of the school uniform and all the local schools have one and all the kids.wear it.

Mine has gone back to wearing her winter puffer jacket if it’s wet. She’d rather be too hot than wear a rain jacket 🤷‍♀️

I remember having a soggy wet blazer and damp neck as a school kid. Totally uncomfortable but I probably also didn’t want to wear a rain coat. Dc was generally ok with wearing one but would never do it up or put the hood up.

Y8 teen wears nothing.

She has a pac a mac which she has worn once. Refuses to wear anything other than her blazer.

I've given up. If she wants to sit in soaking uniform all day she's old enough to make that decision.

North face raincoat - it’s the only coat my DS 16 will wear - even when it’s freezing and he needs something warmer

I have a year 7 boy and have decided the rain coat hill is not one I am willing to die on. He refuses to wear one and will just get wet. He wears a thick coat in winter so he's not getting cold just wet when it rains in spring and summer. A lot of school kids going to his school walk past our house and none of them are wearing coats over their blazers when it rains.

So this! I remember stressing to my older and more experienced colleague about this and she wisely suggested I should pick my battles. By the next year dc was having sex and self harming and I looked back fondly on the days I was worried about outerwear.

Urgh, my Y8 daughter is exactly the same. Bought her an umbrella, won't carry it, "it's too heavy".

Bought her a lightweight raincoat, decent quality but unbranded so no embarrassing brands. Won't wear it.

Will very very reluctantly wear big thick black puffa jacket when it gets below zero.

Spends ages straightening her hair and perfecting her make up and then gets soaking wet on the 30 minute walk to school 🤷‍♀️

But for the love of God provide-but don’t comment on-some of waterproof folders of some sort. Just leave them lying about. There is a remote chance they may use them so their homework doesn’t get soaked. Possibly. Particuarly for girls who refuse appropriate school bags!
