Teenager and mattress

The question: what mattress is recommended for teens and how much do I need to spend on the mattress?

DD turning 13 and still in the children’s bed we bought for her age 3.
It was only an Argos bed but mattress we chose was orthopaedic pocket sprung and very firm/orthopaedic. Don’t think crazy expensive but likely mid-good range in Argos 10 years ago. Read at the time that the firmer the better for young kids.

Anyway, she has grown lots and we agreed for her birthday to upgrade her to an adult bed as she is adult sized now. She wants a double bed which I think is reasonable.

She has choosen a reasonable bed from Argos (discounted & nectar points made it just £200 Bargin.
I feel nervous buying the mattress from Argos and you can’t try them!
I went to a few bed shops like Dreams and furniture village and we tried some. Seems £450 is entrance price/acceptable?
The one she liked and look good quality are £700-900!!!
That seems so much but it’s been a long time since I bought a mattress (except my own tempur one) and it seemed a lot!

I know lots of people buy Emma or simba rolled up foam mattresses but she runs hot and doesn’t like the feels.
One shop had a Mlily which were combine foam/sprung but everyone I know says foam do begin to remember your dent with time.

Anyone advise?
The shops have models made just for them (well the name and label is anyway) to prevent people comparing them and getting cheaper.

arghhh pleas help. Reasonable price?
recommendations firm orthopaedic type sprung mattress and best places to buy.
i didn’t bargin for spending best part of £1000 😬

My teen dd has a latex/pocket spring from IKEA. Seems to have lasted well it is a few years old now.

Following with interest as ds is about to hit teens and wants out of his high sleeper.

We have this on my son’s bed. Tried it in store and it’s absolutely wonderful. https://www.dreams.co.uk/dream-team-tadley-800-pocket-memory-mattress/p/131-01010-configurable?suggestion=suggestion-Tadl

I wouldn't get a memory foam one if she gets warm in bed - we had one for a while and nearly boiled it was so hot.
£200 is very little to spend - the quality won't be great. But if discounted/points etc you could be getting a bargain.
Is it a brand? Can you try it somewhere else?
IKEA beds generally seem to be very good value and quality

We got an Eve mattress and it's really comfy. You can also choose how soft/firm you want it just by flipping it over (which is good if you don't have the chance to test it out).

Bought pocket sprung double for£500 last week in Bensons. It replaced an expensive Sealy mattress and I’m really pleased with it.

didnt see your one.
i guess worried with foam over time it reduces comfort of bed. We have a latex topper and it began to dent even though springs below still supportive.
Wonder if better to go for traditional pocket spring

You can buy overstocked mattresses on ebay brand new delivered which are half the price of the shops. For example:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/396641398163
£450 Sealy Enhance Winslow Geltex 2400 Pillow Top 4ft 6 Double Mattress - RRP £1,499.

If you’ve found one in Dreams that you like, speak to the staff there and ask for similar recommendations but cheaper.

we did this - found a lovely mattress that was £800. Spoke to the staff and they showed us an identical one for half the price which we ended up buying. Dreams sometimes just change the name and then put the price up or down depending on the market. They also have sales on and reduce their stock randomly so worth checking their website. No I don’t work for them! But have been impressed with the beds and mattresses I have bought there.

Thank you all. Her birthday is this week and exactly as some have you have said... Overwhelming choosing.

After trying lots, I thought John Lewis range was reasonable.
Also in dreams reviewed some of the orthopaedic mattresses at lower and mid price point and was pleasantly surprised.

This was our final choice & hoping it will serve her well. Was firm and traditional feeling.
