Supplements for Teen Girls

What supplements do your teen girls take?

I’ve just ordered Biotin for myself and wondered if she could take this?

She is 14 and I asked on the website and they said check with GP and mentioned getting the vitamins from diet … she still eats like an 8 year old!!

Dd is a teenager and has been seen by dieticians as has AFRID and sits on 3rd percentile but drops when she's ill. We were advised to give an A-Z vitamin, vitamin D and calcium. Obviously getting it from diet is best but not all can and so the dietian said this would help 'top up'.

Now that you say that my DD is 3rd percentile too so it’s really interesting to hear from you. Are those 3 separate tablets/gummies you give her then or an all in one?

We were advised not to give gummies (something to do with lesser absorption I think).
All Separate.
A-z vitamin (not a multivitamin as is different).
Separate dose of vitamin d (as there will be some in the a -z). You need to add up how much she'd be getting in total.
Calcium and vitamin d are taken alternative days to make sure she doesn't get too many vitamins as calcium can't be taken as a stand a lone tablet its always mixed. So she has a calcium and vitamin d tablet.

The dietian also advised us to offer 5 'meals' a day which has helped but is hardwork (has breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, dinner and supper). Also look at ways to add extra calories where possible so extra butter, gravy, custard, full fat milk or cream in a hot chocolate etc.

I give my dd iron and then a separate multivitamin. She rarely eats meet and I’ve noticed a big difference in her energy levels since giving the iron.

Do you find the iron is ok on her stomach? My DD doesn’t eat any red meat at all and not much veg so she could probably do with some iron but it’s quite rough on the stomach, that’s my findings anyway when taking it myself.

My teen used to take Wellteen. Then suddenly stopped aged 20 . She became vegetarian aged 13 (and was v slim) and was finding she felt faint a lot. She reckoned the wellteen stopped this. Could have been psychosomatic but anyway I feel it was a good thing for her to take.

Following a bit of a cycle of being low on iron and other things as shown by bloodtests, having courses of supplements getting to OK, but dropping off, DD now takes a simple Boots multivitamin+iron tablet daily which seems to be holding her steady.
