I can't imagine having all that time off before 6th form, but here it is - the end of GCSEs is really not that far away. Anyone know the best way to get a teenage boy to go out and get a job? Or is some time off in order?

My dd's got an interview with Waitrose ,they'll take them on after gcses.Have you a local supermarket.
Local pub if it serves food may need kitchen/waiting staff.

Mac Job

If nothing else the smell of frying fat will make him want to go into the sixth form and get a better job!

DD3 16 is doing her GCSE's at the moment and she is planning to find a job after she has finished but she#ll have a break first.

If my DS1's experience is anything to go by it's a bit late to be applying for the summer; his birthday is mid-July, so he wouldn't have been taken on before then anyway, but by the time he applied all the older ones were already lined up to be taken on straight after GCSEs were finished; so he had to wait until September, when all the uni students had gone back and created vacancies.

If you have any contacts, try them first!

stop his allowance so he needs money.

My DS always Wahed cars ,painted fences etc. He always worked hard as he knew there was cash at the end of it. My neighbours actually ask when he will be around now as he was known as a grafter.

can he swim? I mean, swim well? cos if so he could train as a lifeguard - my ds has already planned what he's going to do with his first summer holiday lifeguard paypacket - he's only 11 and the minimum age is 16 so he's got a while to wait
