Leaving the school for lunch

What school year does your DC's school let them have lunch outside in "town"?

For my DC it's only in 6th form.

Were your DC allowed to take outside food back inside to eat?

Yes, there is nowhere to sit and eat outside the grounds. It's not different to bring in a packed lunch.

In Scotland I don't know any secondary schools that prevent any pupils leaving the grounds at lunchtime. Some do discourage it.

My English relatives are always horrified by this! I don't see how it's any different to going home for lunch (maybe that's not allowed either?).

Nope, not allowed either. It's about leaving the school grounds during school day for whatever reason.

I had this when I was in school in Germany in the mid-Eighties. Only the 6th form was allowed to leave the grounds.

I think it’s sixth form here.
When I was at school in the 1990s we could go home at lunchtime from Year 7.

My DS's school said outside food couldn't be brought back in because it would make the 6th form canteen dinner lady feel bad.

I’m in Ireland so the class names are different, but the school my DC go to leaves them out at lunchtime aged about 15.

School is in the centre of a small town.

I live in Scotland and I'm a bit horrified by the high school kids all leaving the school at lunchtime. But that's only because I've seen the utter shite they buy for lunch. I am dreading my DCs going to secondary and eating chips every day. One time I saw a child buying a 4-pack of Danish pastries from Tesco for lunch but to be honest, from his perspective, that's better value than spending the same amount of money or more on a horrible meal deal. Apart from the food issue I don't have a problem with it where I live, it's very safe.

@BarnacleBeasley not sure about the rules for secondary school food in Scotland but my DD’s food at secondary was miles away from primary.

think chips, sausage rolls, panini etc.

DD did packed lunch some years, especially in Spring/Sunmer when they could eat outdoors.

We just made sure she had at least decent snacks and fruit with her each day.
