Which is better for teenagers?

We are looking at moving house. Wondering if it is better for teenagers to have their own bedroom in a location that's further from school, friends and amenities, or to share a bedroom with a sibling in a location closer to everything?
We would be moving to a further away location just to give them their own bedrooms. Will we regret it? Do teenagers really need their own bedrooms?
Family of 6.
Thanks for any advice.

What do they say? Personally I would have thought they would prefer their own rooms.

I'd say it depends on the teenagers. For dc 1 and 3 (both asd) a bedroom of their own would be most important. For dc2 easily getting to activities /seeing friends would be more important.

How far are we talking?

Can they get to school and friends on public transport and how long will it take?

SilverDoublet · 18/02/2025 22:34

About a 26 minute walk to school and 27 min walk to some friends. 22 minutes on public transport.

Yeah own rooms. That distance is nothing for teens.

Definitely own rooms at that distance. My Dds walked 40 mins to school, in preference to getting the bus, meeting up with friends on the way. The walk was good exercise without them really thinking about it that way

Own bedrooms. How old are they all? Most teenagers like chatting to their mates and would not want a sibling in the same room. What did they say when you asked them?
