Teen skipping lessons.

Hi all,
My son is 17 and taking his A-levels this summer.
Lately (the past couple of months) he's been skipping classes, and for no apparent reason.
Hubby and I have had many conversations with him to spot any underlying issues with the classes or the college and explained why it's important - at this point in time - to attend classes (ie prep for his exams).
He's a happy kid, with hobbies and a good social circle, so I don't think it's unhappiness or underlying depression.
He's doing the homework and all his tutors comment on his abilities. We know there's one class he doesn't like that much. but sometimes he skips the other two as well. He seems to skip a class every week at the moment, just because he feels like it.
I'm worried this is turning into a trend that'll get worse as exams approach and/or that he's slowly quitting... it could be just me panicking, I just don't know.
Anyone else with a similar conundrum and any suggestions?
Many thanks.

If the school catches him out he'll probably get a detention or two. People in DSs class would skip the lessons and just learn the content on their own

From just reading the title I honestly thought it was about a new fad- skipping lessons for keeping fit!

Op I remember doing my a levels - sometimes I skipped class - I was at a big sixth form college - I dont think my mum would have been told tbh!

we used to just muck about, play cards, sometimes I was distracted, socialising just being a bit of a dick head generally!

I think this is part of growing up and making the odd poor decision.

I got decent a levels in the end - it took a teacher in one subject taking me aside and telling me I was going to fail! dont think my parents even knew really.

perhaps a teacher could have a word - I think once they are 17 they need to be treated like grown ups - they need to learn self discipline at this point and it has to come from an internal desire to pass etc.
