Kids in school making fun of where she goes from

We live in Northern Ireland but originally from England. Kids in dds school are saying they hate English people and hate England. Making fun of her doing a posh accent saying wee comments etc.
It's getting her down and she came home in tears yesterday.
I know there's alot of history and it's a tricky one.
How do I go about this. I was thinking ofnphoning in today and speaking to someone. I will phone but not sure what to say.

You phone in today and say your daughter is being bullied. You expect the culprits to apologise and be disciplined if it happens again.

A talk with the class and a whole school assembly on the topic would be in order too, I should think.

PrincessAnne4Eva · 14/01/2025 08:47

Yes I would phone in. There's the expected occasional ribbing from friends about being English and then there's bullying, and this is clearly bullying. One thing I will say from my years in NI is that some people will pay lip service to solving these sort of problems or pretend they don't exist. When you're the one experiencing it, you know it's real and it can be frustrating not being taken seriously. Your DD has a right to feel safe at school and I hope the school sort it for you.

Regardless of the history of the region, children shouldn’t be bullying someone because of where they come from. The OP’s DD has no control over what politicians have done. This wouldn’t be acceptable in relation to any other race or nationality.

OP doesn't have control of politicians actions but is in comtrol of her own and DPs jobs and home location.

This isn't equivalent to "any other country/nationally" - it's more similar to sending a Jewish child to a Palestinian school or a Russian child to a Ukrainian school.

Are you from NI? Because I am and this is totally unacceptable. I've friends right across the political spectrum here and, whatever their beliefs, no-one would think a child coming home in tears is okay.

OP, I'm really sorry your wee girl is going through this and would definitely raise with the school.

PrincessAnne4Eva · 14/01/2025 09:25

Think we've found the bully's mum. 🙄

stanleypops66 · 14/01/2025 09:27

It's totally unacceptable. I think this is probably area dependant in NI. I moved my family from England to NI and neither them or my dh had any negative comments regarding their accent. Various accents are very common in dc school. I know this is the experience of other parents I know in similar circunstances. Contact the school and get them to deal with this.

Jesus Christ, have I travelled back in time by 40 years?

Where do you live PokerFriedChips? I'm willing to bet it isn't NI in 2025.

Moveoverdarlin · 14/01/2025 09:29

My neighbours moved from south-east England back to Ireland 10 years ago. The Mum was Irish, the Dad and 3 kids were English. Exactly the same thing happened. The kids were given a terrible time for being English. Even the Dad in his workplace felt completely ostracised.

Jeez, what an attitude to justify bullying. You should be ashamed of yourself.

What on Earth?

This is categorically unacceptable OP. Take it to the HT and nip it in the bud now.

She's in NI not Ireland

All the things you are saying shouldn't affect the way children treat other children or in fact how anyone treats anyone else.

Would it be acceptable if kids to be called a German child a nazi? No it wouldn't because nothing that child has done has hurt or affected any of the others

Youdidwhatcirca2021 · 14/01/2025 09:36

We are 6 months into our move from England to Northern Ireland. Husband is returning home, me and the kids are English and sound very English. We have experienced nothing but kindness and welcoming from everyone we have encountered. Yes we have had comments on our accents, we sound very different and one of my son's swings from being told he sounds very posh to impressions of Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist. The difference is the intent and the Ops daughter is experiencing intentional bullying and this should be addressed with the school immediately.

You really don't want to know. 😬

Glad you're going to hear from them about it, hope they sort it for you.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/01/2025 13:01

Surely it's classed as racist bullying. To say you hate all people from a specific country.
It's not acceptable. Even if they have political history etc with the British it's still not on.
If a German person moved to the UK, people couldn't keep saying how we hate them all because of Hitler or whatever.
I hope you make a complaint.

LoyalMember · 14/01/2025 14:08

I obviously can't see the removed comments, but surely it wasn't people defending little kids being bullied? Jesus Effing Christ, take a look at yourselves, you, outdated, f#cking pricks.

The 1st one was about how English people should be in NI and the kids were right and the English deserved it
