Can a CAHMS referral affect DDs employment chances in future?

DD is 17 and highly ambitious. She studies hard and is determined to become a lawyer. I'm more concerned about her health. She has a binge eating disorder and the doctor has now referred her via CAHMS to the eating disorder clinic at our hospital.
I know employers have the right to access medical records. She's anxious about missing college and lessons yet wants support as she admits she feels out of control.
I just want her to be well, safe and supported but I'm wondering if I should try to source someone privately?
If anyone knows anything on this id appreciate advice. There was a guardian article on CAHMS referrals impacting young peoples employment chances.

Thanks in advance

I don't think employers have the right to access medical records.

I work in education and it was always something that was on my application forms .

No idea about law.

If she were to enter a career where you need to disclose any previous medical treatment then this wouldn't matter whether she accessed privately or through NHS. She would disclose in the same way.

I would also have thought that having an untreated eating problem would have worse consequences on future education or employment, so would encourage her to seek help sooner rather than later.

The referral will also be via CAMHS as binge eating is classed as a mental health condition www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/binge-eating/overview/

Many thanks Catipepo

My 10 yr old DS was recently rejected from the army due to having anxiety on his GP records. He had no Camhs referral and never received treatment. The record was from when he was 11. He has since looked further into it and seen the navy and Raf Have slightly different rules. In short - yes it can have an impact if the chosen career requires medical information to be disclosed.

However I agree with @Catipepo if he needs treatment that's the most important thing! Camhs, however are often useless!!

Sorry - she!!

20 yr old not 10 - oh goodness!!!

Sorry your DDb is struggling OP.
Not to be a negative Nancy but I would be very surprised if the eating disorder clinic accepts your daughter.
My DD17 was referred twice by camhs but the eating disorder clinic did not accept her.
I have found they are primarily geared up to support anorexia and not binge eating.
My DD has severe mental health issues with being overweight and her eating to the point of dropping out of school for a year and overdoses. Even then the ED team did not accept her.
I hope you have better luck than we did.
Xx

Law is generally quite relaxed as a profession about those who have had eating disorders, it's really common. I have and got into law when it was obvious I was ill, I am now recovered. I know more than a few others in the firm who once had eating disorders. We are open about it these days. So if that is what your DD wants to do it shouldn't be a barrier. Being still ill and untreated may be more of a problem!

What good advice on here. RainyDayCoffee I'm shocked ! How awful. Maybe we won't get through, it's only an assessment they've booked her in for so far.
whereonthestair that's good to hear that being unwell wasn't a hindrance for you !
