Apparently the wraps he was making for his lunches suddenly 'go soggy' he's in y8 they were ok in y7!
Doesn't want sandwiches
Doesn't want rolls
Doesn't want something warm in a thermos

He has school lunches when he's with his dad and I'm not letting him have them with me too as he just chooses rubbish

Sounds like he's pushing for school lunches! If you are really against them, then I'd just make sure the fridge has snacks like meat, fruit and bread etc and let him crack on with it. If he's hungry (which he will be!) he'll soon make a sandwich. My DD usually had school lunches. She did choose the crap along with the pasta pot but she always ate well at home the rest of the time so I didn't stress too much about it tbh. Might be worth double checking that he's no under pressure from anyone to hand over money with menaces at school. If he's his usual self and happy then probably not the case.

Mine is the same.

Currently he has a sausage roll, fruit and pretzels. Until the time he rejects that no doubt. Not ideal but what can you do?!?!

DS takes a tub of cold tuna pasta mostly. Always gets eaten.

Croissant, crisps, cereal bar. Not the healthiest but it is what it is.

HildaHosmede · 22/11/2024 21:26

If it's not standard sandwiches/wraps, it's usually pesto pasta.

My DDs take healthy but snacky food: half a bagel, some cuke slices, cheese strings, small packet of crisps, apple quarters, cereal bar, cheese sandwiches. My older DD reports that her friends bring wraps to college.

My two have never much liked cooked food at school so have taken packed lunches most of their lives. Thankfully, now they pack their own. Sometimes they make the effort to bring pasta in a thermos.

My son is 14. I usually pack him a sandwich, crisps, something sweet, strawberries and chopped raw veg, like cucumber, carrots, celery etc. He has money on a swipe card that he can buy something from the canteen if he's extra hungry. I can see online though what he's bought though!! I am quite lucky in that my son isn't fussy with his food, he eats what I pack.

Sandwich, apple, crisps and nature valley bar, on the days he doesn’t have school dinner! I don’t stress about it tbh, I lived on chip and cheese baps at school and didn’t come to any harm!

Mine says sandwiches go soggy. They tend to take a toasted cream cheese bagel, a sandwich with vegan chicken slices so very dry or pasta salad. This is accompanied by piece if fruit a bag of mini cheddars. They refuse to use a lunch box of any kind

My DD constantly rejected things throughout her time at school. What she liked for weeks suddenly was "meh". She's now settled on peanut butter in a roll/sandwich/bagel or cheese and something in the same. If I make soup or stew for dinner she might take the leftovers in a thermos flask. She also has a piece of fruit, a small chocolate bar and a couple of little cheese & onion rolls.

Once they reached Year 7 mine all made their own packed lunches so they could choose what they liked.
Pretty much all the time they have a sandwich, piece of fruit, veg sticks or dried fruit and a snack bar.
Occasionally they would make pesto pasta or rice salad to have cold.
Fridays they have school dinners as a treat.

If he wants school lunches, let him have school lunches. I have an extremely picky eater who wouldn't touch school lunches ever. He either takes dinner leftovers from home or i have to get a specific type of pasty that he'd actually eat, alongside with a banana or satsuma.
