How long to recover from vitamin d deficiency

We’ve recently found out 16 year old ds has a vitamin d deficiency. His level was 15 and apparently should be over 49. He has been prescribed 10000 daily for 8 weeks via text when his results came back so we’ve not actually spoken to a doctor to find out how long it takes to kick in or what happens after the 8 week course. Anybody have any knowledge of this?

You usually buy over the counter supplements after the initial course, to maintain your levels. Plus get out more with exposed skin in the summer months.

Getting him out is difficult which is almost certainly why his levels are so low

Dc has been told to take them for life (has asd so limited sunshine and a few other illnesses). Bloods were taken after 3 months then, 1 year but not since. I suspect it's a postcode lottery, in our area they get them free on prescription till 18 (when they're then expected to buy them) while ever there's a clinical need. The rationale for this according to gp is if they're being prescribed the dc will be followed up at least annually.

Keep him on a decent dose after the 8 week course, 4000IU daily is fine

My level was 9, I had the high dose course and keep taking 4000IU daily and now my level is 66 (when last tested)

These are what I've been taking
