Reading a room

our 13 year old does not know when to stop!

this may be me over thinking it or reading into it a little too much but our 13 year does not seem to know when to just stop.
if he is having fun and others around him have had enough (say a nerf fight or general messing) this seems to hype him up to the point he can’t stop or break.
he has always been popular with a good group of friends but I do worry that if this continues his friends will drift away.

are there any tactics I can use to help him read the room and also stop the big argument that comes when we step in.

In my experience boys seem to be quite good at telling each other that they are being annoying without any drama. So he will likely get the message and have a chance to adjust before it becomes an issue.

But also what might seem annoying to you might be part of what makes him likeable for his friends. Unless you have any reason to think his friends are getting irritated maybe it's fine to leave him be, or just give him general advice on how it's important to adapt or modify our behaviour with different people and in different circumstances.
