Should I give up trying to encourage teen DD to have a healthy diet?

DD is 17 and v sporty (competes at high level) and in last yr of school. We've always had a healthy balanced diet at home with occasional take-aways / less healthy stuff too. Over the last 6 months DD has been eating a lot of junk and we keep finding empty big share size bags of sweets in her bin, empty redbull / lucozade bottles etc.

She'll eat burger and chips out and then have no room for whatever I've cooked (and she normally likes most things I cook). We've tried to encourage her to make healthy choices and talked about risks of lots of ultra processed foods etc but she just says she doesn't have much and burns it off anyway through her sports. Trouble is she gets ill and she needs healthy stuff if she's going to continue competing

I'm trying to work out what to do and whether at 17 I should give up saying anything and just let her get on with it or whether I should try harder and risk being controlling! I'd appreciate any advice anyone has!

I have the same problem in that my son 16 comes in from college and I don't see him again until I go to bed,or sometimes not until the next day.
I've cooked something like a fish pie or lasagne and leave it on the side so he can warm up,but by 11pm I give up and stick it in the fridge.
It's often there two days. He says he is eating and goes to the co op ,then gangs at friends house. It's only been happening since he started college,so a few weeks and I've been stressed over it but trying to chill!

It's difficult. I would get her a good multivitamin and try to get as much good food into her as I could. If her diet is 80% nutritional and the rest is junk, then it's not too bad. I hope she has regular dental check ups because her teeth are going to rot with all those sugary drinks.
