GCSE Retake

I've goggled but I'm not really getting anywhere.

My DD missed out on passing her English GCSE by 4 points 🙄. She's been allowed to do her chosen course at College on the proviso that she attends for an additional afternoon to retake it. The trouble is, her college is an hours train ride.

Does anyone know if she can retake by distance learning, or at a local college?

I work at sixth form. They have to do the lessons in either English or maths or both so they can resit the exams. She wouldn't be accepted onto the course without doing the lessons. We have exams in October for the ones who just missed out Not sure if they all do this.

Sorry meant to say. If she's that far away they may let her partake In the lesson online

As PP says, she might be able to retake it in October, so could she attend that extra afternoon until then? I presume it is on a day that she is not at college, could she use the time at college to catch up on homework or something in the morning?
How many days does she need to go in for her course?

Thank you both - the course is in London and it's over 2 long days to limit the need to travel as students do come from far and wide.

I'll look into the possibility of her resitting this side of Christmas. It's also an extra £25 a week in fares for the additional day 😬

What course is it she is doing. Is it a level one course ? If so they usually build the lesson into the timetable for the days already there.

Also speak to the college about a travel bursary some student are entitled to this especially if you are on a low income.

Have you thought about requesting a review of the marking of her papers? English marking is quite subjective and it's quite common for a review to lead to marks going up (although there is a small risk they might go down). You have to do it through the school where she took the original exam and the deadline for most exam boards is around 20 September.
