Car insurance whilst learning

What’s the best way of insuring my 17 on our 16yr old car so we can take her out to practice? I tried an add on quote to our policy online & they wanted double our current cost on top! I’ve looked at a stand alone policy just in her name and it was much cheaper but I wasn’t sure if we can have two policies running on one car? Do I just need to phone them up to get a deal or is there an add on number of days you can buy? She only wants to go out 1-2hrs a week on top of her lessons.

We used Marmalade, who offer specific learner policies which don't interfere with your own insurance policy, so yes, you have 2 policies on the same car. It was quite reasonable considering, and you don't have to insure for a whole year.

Thanks we went with collingwood in the end for six months and it was a fraction of the cost of adding her to our policy

I just started to read your post and was going to recommend collingwood as that's who we are currently using in the same situation.
