Royal Navy apprenticeship application

Only coming on here because the Royal Navy site doesn’t have the answers.

My son is waiting for his A-level results and has decided against going to uni. The debt has put him off. He’s found a logistics apprenticeship in the Royal Navy that he’s interested in and has applied. RN and RAF have been something he’s considered over the last year.

My question is, at what point can he pull out of the process if he decides the RN is not for him? Don’t want him to find he’s signed up for 4 years with no way out!

it seems that provided you’ve served 4 weeks you can leave within 6 months

this is dated 2016 though

@LadyTrishT

If he decides that he doesn't want to go ahead, OP, he can say so when he receives his start date. Under normal circumstances, he will know the date on which he is expected at his training establishment weeks, if not months, in advance. While the application is underway, he can withdraw at any time, if he decides that it's not for him.

Which subjects are his A Levels in, by the way?

@LadyTrishT

He should consider this role too, OP.

Contact your local recruitment office

This sounds like an interest and varied role but a 6 step recruitment process is daunting.

Interesting

I agree. He should ask the recruitment office about this. With A levels he would probably meet the entry criteria for joining as an officer.

@LadyTrishT Did your DS join the Navy in the end? My DC is currently doing logistics in the RN.

Turns out it was a confidence wobble. He got the A-level grades he needed for uni, and is now very happy doing the course he wants, Business and Supply Chain Management. He’s thrived there :)

Glad your DS has found the path he wanted. Maybe he will be a logistics officer post uni! That is what happened with my DD after never considering a career in the military before.
