My daughter (17) has a nasty dark brown mole on her face which she absolutely hates and wants it’s removed.
We have been to the doctors who have said it’s not a dangerous mole it’s more unsightly more then anything and it’s getting bigger and darker as she’s getting older.
The NHS won’t remove it as it’s cosmetic but she adamant she wants it removed.
mate has tried hiding it with makeup but it doesn’t cover it.
Can anybody recommend somewhere where I could take her for a consultation? I don’t mind paying but because it’s her face want to make sure they know what they are doing and will do a good job.

It sounds like it's quite large and needs a proper excision, in which case, a plastic surgeon only. I agree, registered with BAAPS and also working in the NHS is the best route.

Aesthetics/laser removal is really for smaller moles. In some cases a surgeon may be able to do both and would tell you the pros and cons of both.

She's excellent. I saw her privately at Lister Hospital outpatients in London, but think she also has a surgery at Spire Harpenden.

I started using my home ipl to remove the dark hairs that had started to emerge from a mole on my face and it removed the pigmentation of the mole too. A month later I still have a little lump there but it's freckle coloured now rather than mole coloured. Could you try that to start with?

That’s very interesting, are you able to pm me the machine that you have been using please ?

Was this a GP? If so you need to see a different GP and demand an urgent referral to a dermatologist consultant to check if it is truly a noncancerous mole or melanoma. I was fobbed off by a GP when I had skin cancer- it was melanoma on my scalp and I was barely 20. Only when it started bleeding was I taken seriously.

GPs are NOT qualified to identify skin cancer. They are supposed to refer everyone with symptoms and a mole getting darker and bigger are symptoms of melanoma. A 17yo is not too young to get it.

Moles are NOT supposed to get bigger and darker with age.
