I know some teens are rude and obnoxious but not many of the ones I come across are.

Most are hard working polite young people but are treated with such lack of respect by other adults it makes my blood boil.

My dd 16 yrs and some friends were going to the local DL club for dinner.Three were members, three needed to be signed in.The recptionist greeted them with
" well if there is any trouble you'll be kicked out straight away ..I'll be watching you on the cameras"

They were polite when asking to sign their friends in and in no way looked like trouble makers.

It makes me so mad that these kids willing to spend their hard earned money are treated with such lack of respect and courtesy merely because of their age.

I am writing to complain to the manager.

what's a DL club ggirl?

Agree you should write to the manager. It's the receptionist who should have a video camera on her, if that's the way she speaks to customer!

All her customers should expect to be met with the same courtesy, whether 16 or 96.

This is one of my personal rant topics.

My dd and her friends hired a bus to go on a day trip, organised it all and paid for it themselves. From the moment they got on the bus they were treated so differently to how a group of adults would be, that it discourages them from behaving responsibly.

Most teenagers are fine, a bit inconsiderate maybe, and selfish at times, but will grow up soon to be lovely people; but treating them like dirt will only encourage them to rebel and have no respect for adults. Also soon they will be the big spenders when they get jobs, and businesses should remember that!

I agree - bloody rude to be horrible to teenagers just because they are young. Grrr.

Bloody hell talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you tell a teenager you expect them to be a troublemaker and a nuisance, you will probably get what you expect. And serve you bloody well right. No wonder teenagers misbehave if this is what they're confronted with.

claricebeansmum · 11/04/2008 17:37

Would they say that to their parents who are presumably paying the fees?
Not all teenagers are thugs.
Very sad reflection on biggoted receptionist

brimfull · 11/04/2008 19:04

One of the teens pays her own fees ,she works hard and gets treated like this!

I get a bus with teenagers most days and the vast majority of them are extremely polite young adults, it's not wonder some of them get a bit shirty sometimes.

mummabubbalova · 11/04/2008 19:25

There are rude obnoxious people in every sphere. Some of the rudist people i know are 50 ish women- had a tussel with one in Sainsburys recently I seem to attract them unfortunately. I wonder if the receptionist would lump them all together and say "you lot behave yourselves" if a bunch of them walked in

Agree with you, ggirl. My dd is very polite to adults and get very little resepct back.

southeastastra · 11/04/2008 19:29

that's awful, especially the watching you on camera bit

brimfull · 11/04/2008 20:10

well glad it's not just me that finds it unacceptable

It is something that gets me very annoyed! It isn't just teenagers, it is also younger children. People get upset about behaviour and yet are not polite back, for example a child holds open a door and they sail through without even a thank you, never mind a smile.

I left home at 16, I was at college, was struggling with the course and with attendance etc. Psychology teacher (pah!)says to me:-
"Well do you have a problem or are you just lazy?"
Me: "Actually I have clinical depression."

Shut her up.
But she would never have dared talk to one of the mature students that way.

brimfull · 12/04/2008 23:56

yes seems some people treat them like second class citizens
