DD is planning a birthday sleepover - what have I missed?

Six 14yo girls! They'll be bringing sleeping bags and bunking in the family room all together.

I'll get a huge pile of pizzas to cook, fizzy pop, potato wedges, cupcakes. Breakfast is croissants, cereal, milk, juice.

They'll watch TV and amuse themselves, I am just planning on ensuring they are well fed.

Am I missing anything obvious? Any other foods you could recommend?

Mine would want mountains of crisps and chocolate.

But ... does your daughter not have her own clear ideas about what she wants? Go with that.

And make sure the WiFi code is freely available :)

Oh, yes, she has agreed on the above ideas already - but yes to crisps and chocolate! None of the girls have allergies, either, which helps.

Good idea about the WiFi code. :)

Late night snacks! Crisps, chocolate and sweets were all the staples of DD’s sleepover days

BernadetteStBernard · 17/05/2024 09:43

Wine and earplugs for you 😂

therejustbarely · 17/05/2024 09:47

Oh yes. Wine needed for sure!

Maybe a list of films/series your daughter might want to watch with her friends? She might want to purchase something and stream it on the tv. Also, computer games she would like to play (has she got enough controllers or options to use mobile phones as controllers?), or board games if she prefers?

mitogoshi · 17/05/2024 10:53

I would decide in advance perhaps speak to parents if you know them, if they can have a 15 movie. Some parents are laid back about this others definitely not. I would also clearly state no alcohol in advance because at 14 some kids would have access.

Pass the parcel? Always a fun one at any age. Either a really cool prize, or something silly or funny.

These are useful ideas, thank you. A wee bit different from planning a 10yo's sleepover!

I always had spare (new!) toothbrushes

iAmBarbara · 18/05/2024 12:09

I would raid somewhere like home bargains for lots of different types of sweets. Job done
maybe face masks for like a mini pamper session if they fancy?

RoseDog · 18/05/2024 12:22

Sanitary towels, nappy bags, bin available in whatever bathroom they'll be using, not hidden away but not in their face cos someone always has or gets their period at a teen girl sleepover!

OhCobblers · 18/05/2024 12:23

Popcorn and a ton of crisps!!

Geneticsbunny · 18/05/2024 12:43

Are you going to have a rule about phones? I always say they stay downstairs after 8. Can still be used but only in the kitchen. But this is mostly because we have had kids come over for a sleepover and then just spend the whole time on YouTube or toktok and it sort of ruins the atmosphere for everyone else.

My dd is a bit younger though (13)

Ceventa · 21/05/2024 16:00

little pamper items? face masks sort of things (I loved all that stuff - still do when I get a minute!)

DecoratingDiva · 21/05/2024 16:21

earplugs for everyone else in the house 😂

iPreferBooks · 21/05/2024 18:19

You might want to gather two /three extension leads, they'll want to plug in the phones etc, to charge eventually

OliveK · 21/05/2024 18:36

I did this recently.
Cleared all breakables out of the room and put a birthday table cover on the coffee table...sweets and fizzy juice = much stickiness!
Made sure downstairs loo had loo roll/period stuff/ spare towels
Lots of blankets and pillows
Plastic wine glasses /nothing breakable.

Only thing I couldn't work out was how to teen proof the tv - older dc reckoned they might have tried watching some horror thing, but we popped in and out often enough to hopefully put a stop to that!

cockadoodledandy · 22/05/2024 18:42

Move anything you don’t want them fiddling with. Speak to your daughter about what the plans are if they fall out because… teenage girls. Set the ground rules about noise and times etc.

Shelby1981 · 22/05/2024 19:52

Face masks, nail polish etc type pamper things if they would enjoy that?

Imisssleep2 · 22/05/2024 22:02

Maybe some picky sweets like haribo or m and m's and some pringles.
Be prepared to tell them to quieten down several times once time gets on lol and dont expect them to go to sleep before 4/5am , least this was what the sleepovers I went to as a teenager were like.

Tarantella6 · 22/05/2024 22:44

DD1 just had a sleepover party, in a tent in the garden. My tip would be - hire a tent 😁

I did them party bags with bed socks and eye masks which seemed to be a hit.
