Good evening, my daughter's prom is upon us. My daughter is however going through a stage of not truly knowing her identity. She only wears boys clothing, sounds like a boy (deep voice), mannerisms all very boyish. She is very often mistaken for a male at her appointments and clearly it does not bother her. Herein lies my dilemma. She will most certainly not wear a dress. Having read previous threads it all indicates that wearing trousers would make her stand out. I honestly don't think it would perturb her to wear a tuxedo! However, where would I obtain something similar? I am not familiar to purchasing this attire. Is there a store that produces for female tuxedo's (or the like)....perhaps something along that line but a little more different. Any ideas would be so appreciated. TIA.

I have had girls in jumpsuits, suits and ties, tuxes and a range of different things.

Have a look for tuxes in charity shops - the trousers, jacket and a non-formal shirt?

SHEIN have jackets like this - black trousers and a vest top? Just let her be comfortable and not feel she has to conform to any gender

Ladies trouser suits are available everywhere.

Back in the 1990s, my friend wore a bright orange satin trouser suit to our prom, with an elaborately beaded bra/crop top underneath. She wasn't aiming for 'man like', just not the dress type of look.

To this day she looks the most striking of us all in photos.

My daughter sounds similar to yours - we found a vintage (C&A!) green suit and had it tailored to be more form fitting and a vintage soft white ruffle shirt underneath. She looked ace and still wears it to other formal occasions. Just go with what your DD wants to wear.

Women and girls have been wearing trouser suits for some time now - it shouldn’t be too difficult to find one!

Sounds like my DD. She is wearing a jumpsuit, she has chosen a Lipsy Navy blue one at the moment, it is plain but we can add embellishments to make it more fancy, but she may find another one before her prom. The main issue we have had is she is 5ft and probably a size 4 to 6, so finding something that will fit her and not make her look like she playing dress up or too childlike in something from the children sections.

Wearing a Jumpsuit at her Prom isn't an issue many children a going in everything from their national dress to full blown Prom Dresses.

She also has sensory issues with clothes touching her which making it fun.

Vinted is worth a look all sorts on there providing it’ll arrive in time.

There were all sorts of outfits at my dcs proms- my very very girly straight dd wore a dinner jacket. My ds, who was going through a Wodehouse phase wore white tie. And that was a few years ago. I'm sure there will be even more variety now.
