Anyone’s 14 year old got a nose piercing? What do you think? Allow it or not?

16+ for body piercing.

That’s the law.

NashvilleQueen · 29/03/2024 20:02

That's just not true.

Littlefish · 29/03/2024 20:07

If she has it done, will it be an issue at school? Does she do sports where it might need to be removed?

This is absolutely not true. There is no minimum age for piercings except for intimate piercings which are 16+.

Plenty of 14 year olds have them. Mine doesn't as she does a lot of dance and sport and also she's worried about healing as she isn't a great piercing healer and doesn't want scarring or bumps etc on her face.

User500000000023 · 29/03/2024 20:14

I had my done at that age and was easy to deal with. I found it closes really quickly compared to other piercings and I’ve had mine done about 3 times now. I used a plaster during pe lessons/ sports.

I had a number of piercings by that age and the only one that hasn’t closed up now (I no longer wear any jewellery) is my belly button piercing which I got done at 12.

Bluewallss · 29/03/2024 20:15

I’ve had mine done twice. Let her know about keloid scaring and permanently smelling cheese 😫.

Otherwise, as long as she doesn’t do any sports, she’s willing to properly care for it and her school allows it I don’t see the harm. Fortunately it’s a tiny scar that goes after a year when removed!!

Cotswoldmama · 29/03/2024 20:21

It can heal over very quickly, so if she's going to have to take it out for school I might be a waste. I had mind done during lock down as jewellery wasn't allowed at worked. It was healed by the time I went back to work I had changed the stud a few times etc but it still closed over after being out for 2/3 hours, I tried to put it in a during a break and it was completely closed over!
On the plus side it was one of the least painful piercings I had.

savethatkitty · 29/03/2024 20:25

I made mine wait until 16.

Feedtheworld1982 · 29/03/2024 20:28

I had mine done at 14. Still wear it 20 odd years later and a very small mark if I take it out for whatever reason. Make sure you take her to a reputable piercer using a needle and not one of those god awful guns which can do all sorts of damage and transmit diseases.

mrsed1987 · 29/03/2024 20:30

I had mine done for me 12th birthday lol. Mine never closed quickly, I've had it out for years and know I'd be able to get one in with a bit of a push if I wanted!

Could you explain the 'smelling cheese' please ,i assume its the gunk that builds up in the piercing ?
My daughter is thinking about getting hers done .

Bacteria, sebum and dead skin cells. Speaking to other people with nose piercings everyone gets it but varies in severity. It does get better as the piercing heals. However, I couldn’t tolerate it so took mine out.

BrutusMcDogface · 30/03/2024 15:45

Yuk to smelling cheese! She’d probably say that was a small price to pay, though!😂 I’ve also told her to wait til she’s 16 but she’s driving me mad going in about it so thought I’d gauge responses here!

At no point has my nose piercing ever smelt like cheese, and I’ve never heard of anyone else’s doing that either!

reluctantbrit · 01/04/2024 17:46

DD got hers at 16 because her school didn't allow facial piercings.

The studio we used also doesn't do any non-ear piercing under 16, so you need to check their rules.

She was told it has to stay in for 6 months, so it is difficult if she does sport/dance and can't wear it.

PeatandDieselfan · 01/04/2024 18:04

I had mine done at 15. I didn't ask my mum first. I took it out when I was about 19 and it closed without a scar.

Jane1978xx · 03/04/2024 11:07

I've told my daughter she can have hers done next year when she is 14. Some of her friends did their own so I would rather she has it done properly.

18+ for intimate piercings.

Op I'd allow it, 14 is old enough.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 03/04/2024 11:11

Agree it seems old enough
it’s not a particularly troublesome piercing in general

Bigwelshlamb · 03/04/2024 11:13

It's a hard no from me.... It's too young and she can wait.

BillieEyelash1 · 03/04/2024 12:23

I had mine done not too long after I turned 16. One of my friends had hers done at 14 which was quite early as most people I know have theirs done at 16/17. Saying that, I do know my brother’s friend who had hers done at 11 recently (might’ve just turned 12 but not sure!)

EvenStillIWantTo · 03/04/2024 12:39

My DD had hers done at 13, she really liked it but managed to knock it out one day and it closed really quickly.

She can pay to get it repierced herself if she wants to!

V confused about the cheese thing; I have mine done and there's no smell. Keep it bloody clean! I do clean mine with a cotton bud and some Clinisept regularly though as it gets make up on it.

grooveraidiator · 04/04/2024 12:51

hi OP, got some great responses here but i'll chip in in case you wanted more range.

i've got a nose one - a small hoop and 14 in both ears so not against piercing.

Quite simply, i'd say no to this piercing to my daughter as it is against school rules.

My girl will be getting a second lobe piercing in may half term but this is because she will not wear the first set and by doing that she can follow the rule of one pair of small earrings during school time. She will pop the first pair back in the evenings.
