How much allowance / pocket money for a 15 year old?

DD is 15 and hasn't got time for a weekend job. At the moment I just buy what she needs, clothes, makeup, books etc and give her money if she's going out with friends. But I'd like her to have more financial freedom and maybe start a monthly allowance. Does anyone else do this? Please tell me how much you give to your teens.

My 15 year old - year 11 - gets £80 per month. He can also earn a tenner for babysitting our youngest once or twice a month and a fiver for mowing the lawn 2 or 3 times a month.

We arrived at the 80 figure by looking back at how much I’d given him over previous months and averaging it - trips to town, cinema, bus fares, lunches when out with mates

I buy most of his clothes and toiletries but he’s got some scope now to supplement this and likes buying in charity shops and vinted

Oh this is really helpful thank you. Good idea to see how much I've dished out over the last six months and average it.

At that age I gave DD £50 per month, if she was going out with friends for lunch/dinner or a special shopping day I often gave her a bit more to go and buy herself something

£10 a week - I’ll pay for clothes etc that she needs, toiletries and snacks go on the general shopping list, and I pay for her travel card. So it’s just coffee with her friends or on-the-go snacks, and any special clothes she wants to save up for.

Ok I've averaged what I have given over the last 12 months and it's much higher than I thought - £55!

DS is 14. He gets £5 per week and has a job on top which earns about £15 per week. I also pay £10 per month for payg mobile.

we buy basic clothes, school uniform and shoes, but fancy stuff he either asks for birthdays etc or saves up for.

Wow, you lot are generous! Mine get £15 per month although they also earn £40 in a job. Mine never spend it!

I should add they have a clothing allowance (not school stuff) of £15 as well. We pay for their contract phone

We used to give 40 a month, then doubled it to 80 a month but one of them was ridiculously wasteful and was burning through money in days. We halved it again and also pay for phone, cinema pass which they never use and gym which they never use 🫠

We buy all clothes/trainers and sponsor the odd theme park/activity thing.

They're half heartedly seeking weekend jobs, but enthusiasm is lacking...

I give 14yo £25 per month. He never ever spends it. He's got 100s built up in his account so pointless giving him more.

Y11 15yo. £10 pw plus phone, and I top up his travel card every so often.
His Dad pays for his season ticket, but that's not counted in as it's not exactly day to day expense.
His Nan gives him the odd £10 and if he eats out, I usually reimburse him.
We still buy his clothes but he buys football shirts and anything extra that he fancies.

I give dc £10 per week. His gym membership, phone, clothes, days out with friends etc are obviously not included in that. The £10 a week is just for any drinks/ snacks he wants really.

I give DD £30 per week of school holidays for going out with her friends. I pay for everything else, if she wants to buy gifts for people at Christmas/birthdays I go 50:50 with her and she's a saver she has loads tucked away.

£40 a month - I buy all the basics and school stuff and do 2 seasonal shops a year for basics. She's just had a £1000 gift from her grandad and ex is giving it her £200 a month so she's loaded - but if she had it all it would be spent on Tiktok shite

Annual cinema card; phone plus contract; gym membership plus £45 a month to his account and then £100 every quarter

I only give mine £7.50 a week, which I realise now from looking at GoHenry is a lot less than the £13.70 average, but she never spends any of it! I always buy her books (she reads a lot), clothes etc, and although she has lots of friends at school they don’t really go out much at weekends, so it never comes up. She has hundreds in her savings though because of spending so little.

DD16 gets £20 per month. I'm pay her phone bill, buy her clothes, pay for activities such as music lessons etc.

She doesn't wear anything other than (unbranded) leggings, T-shirts, hoodies etc.

She reads loads but generally borrows from library.

She buys the odd hobby equipment, crystals, gifts for friends' birthdays.

She doesn't go out much so her pocket money goes quite a long way. She saves most of it.

As she starts to need more money, I'll start increasing her allowance. There seems little point in giving her loads that she doesn't need.

Having read this thread I feel a little embarrassed that she only gets £20. It's certainly not due to a tight family budget.

Dd (14) £35 per month
Ds (13) £30 per month
The £5 is because dd has to buy her own sanpro.

Why does your DD buy her own sanpro?

DD is 15 in Y11. She gets £40 a month, she also earns £40 a month from her weekend job.

I also pay for her phone & her gym membership. If she asks me for ordinary bathroom type products that I can put in a supermarket shop I’ll get those. I’ll buy her any books she wants, & buy things I think she might like in charity shops sometimes. And I will pay for a waterproof coat, a pair of trainers & a pair of wellies!

How are your kids all so cheap? DD is only 12 but she gets £30 from her grandma, I pay her contract phone plus essentials and then on top I give her around a million pounds every month and she rattles through it. A never ending echo of "can I have".

Mine (16) gets £25 pocket money and £40 clothing allowance. She needs to buy all clothes apart from school uniform/hiking boots.

When our cleaner moved, she asked if she could take over, which we agreed to if she cleaned at the same standard. She’s fab and gets £25 for 2 hrs of cleaning each week too.

she’s not a spender so has plenty of money at the moment.
