Driving test - how to book?

DC has a test booked for April but is now panicking and wants to move it back to May/June.

The next available isn't till August so how do I go about trying to book a cancellation? Obviously we'll also be freeing up a slot with the one we cancel.

Do I literally just have to just logging in and hoping for the best?

I'd encourage them to give it a go in April and try to do lots of practising with them in the meantime. Even if they fail, at least they'll know what to expect next time. My teen's instructor told her he didn't think she'd pass, so she panicked (as you would). We decided that he was clearly not a great guy but it was too late to change at that point, so she'd take the test and if she failed we'd look for a new instructor. She passed with no faults!

Sign up to the Testi app, cancellations will come up.

Also if he has an instructor see if there’s a local instructor group that organises test swaps.

That would be ideal and it might still work out that way but he's so panicky about it that I'm not sure it's worth it.
I have realised that there is an app called Testi that seems to look for tests so we might use that.
It's bankrupting me 😳

Just keep looking. As long as you do it 3 days before you will be fine.

Echoing @Cheshireflamingo , I’d encourage them to do it and book a few more lessons than usual in the weeks + days beforehand to build up confidence. Things do tend to suddenly come together, I doubt anybody ever feels fully ready or confident for their driving test but you just have to go for it and get it over and done with. There will never be a perfect time and delaying it is only going to prolong the anxiety

Take the test, tell him no pressure it is just for practice and he doesn't need to tell anyone else he is taking it, tell him to accept he is likely to fail because he is not ready and just relax and treat it like a lesson.

That's how I passed my unexpectedly! (mine was because I didn't care as the day before I had some upsetting family news, had been up most of the night crying, and knew I wouldn't be able to concentrate and nearly cancelled/didn't go)

Also do some, relaxed, extra practice with him between now and the test.

I'd encourage him to go for it. There's a reason he booked it.
People can learn more by failing a driving test , than they can in months of lessons .
