Spot care for Ds

18 year old Ds2 wants advice on what to use on his spot prone skin. It's mainly his face affected and it isn't too bad (I wouldn't even call it acne really) but he does have breakouts quite regularly.
Any advice on lotions/potions/creams/face washes?

Skincare can be a slippery slope for teens, it will fix one problem whilst simultaneously introducing another!

A gentle cleanser, oil-free non-comedogenic moisturiser, and sunscreen with both UVB and UVA protection is the sensible route.

I wouldn’t leap for BHAs or niacinamide. They’re having their moment in the spotlight on social media, but both can irritate and make things worse than when you started. Niacinamide especially can cause bumps clustered under the skin in a proportion of people, or ‘purging’ in the form of increased breakouts.

Accutane is the ultimate solution if he feels he needs it. DD was put on a low dose (10mg) at a similar age and it completely eliminated her acne.

I had awful acne as a teen and I massively over stripped my skin with harsh face washes and creams and would strongly advise against that! The cerave smoothing SA cleanser is supposed to be good, plus a mild moisturiser for oily skin and spf. Also , if it continues, go to the GP.

Cerave facewash for oily skin (cleans without stripping which is what he wants)

Acnecide cream over the counter or (better) ask the GP to prescribe Epiduo cream

His doesn’t sound nearly bad enough for Roaccutane

Be cautious about antibiotics as they can mess up your gut

Thank you. I would agree, nowhere near bad enough for medication. I suppose he just wants the best way to take care of it (I'm clueless with anything like this!)

Cerave face wash above has done marvels for dd2. She uses a moisturiser as well but I can't remember which one (all recommended by dd1 who is the skin care expert.)
