My DS1 who is 15 has an interview with a college next week. In the letter it says that people under the age of 19 are welcome to bring along a parent/guardian. Has anyone else gone along with their DC for one of these interviews?

Drop him off and don't go far - he can text you if he wants you to come back because everyone else has a parent with them...

ooh, it is a hard one.

libEL · 19/03/2008 20:06

I remember my college interview at 15 - and I'd have been mortified if my dad hadnt just dropped me off but came in with me.

I dont remember a single person having a parent with them

Does he want you to go?

mumeeee · 19/03/2008 22:28

Don't go unless he wants you to.

Just to add. Dh took DD3 to her interview. He dropped her off but didn't go far. She had a normal college interview and one for learning support. She texted him to come to the learning support interview as there was something he had to sign. She was fine in the normal one.
DH said their were lots of young people with parents but also some with out.

i took dd1 to her interview, but didnt go in with her

I took ds as it was that monday we had really band weather. but i waited in the car outside. have to say it was an odd feeling

HotFlush · 22/03/2008 22:31

I took DD to hers - she wanted me to walk with her through the college as she wasn't sure she would find the room. It was in the student resource area, so I just sat in the comfy chairs reading stuff while she had her interview. She was cool with this although there were no other parents in sight!

I'm still not sure, he says he doesn't mind either way

I took my ds to his interview a few weeks ago and was quite pleased that he had asked me to go. I have to point out that my ds is a confident and outgoing young man who normally thinks it's uncool to be seen with his parents.

If your ds is saying that he doesn't mind either way if you go, just go with him. That way, you are there to offer support if he needs it and he can make the decision on the day if he wants you to go in to the interview with him.

Sometimes, it's hard for teenagers to admit that they still need their parents support!

just drop him off and stay close by....as others have said, this is a step towards adulthood and he may well want to go on his own but doesnt want to hurt your feelings iyswim

Mikafan · 28/03/2008 17:33

Well he went (on his own) and it seemed to go well. He has a provisional place as long as he gets 3 C's
