Summer camp for 16 year old in Cambridge

I'm visiting my parents in Cambridge for 2 weeks (from Italy) and I need to find something to keep my 16 year old busy. Either a camp - STEM or something sciencey - or do you think he could get a job for 2 weeks in a tearoom or bar? ANy suggestions on what to do with a 16 year old?

What’s wrong with just seeing his grandparents and going out sightseeing with you? Attempting to get him a job for 2 weeks is totally bizarre and will not happen. You don’t need to ‘do’ anything with him - he’s not a dog!

He's a teenager and he's been to Cambridge many times. I'll be working and I'm looking for a two week experience that would keep him busy - and off his phone. He loves his grandparents but after about an hour a day with them, he needs some social interaction with other people - preferably kids his own age. That was a totally harsh and unhelpful post - hope it made you feel better.

As the summer schools are super competitive, worth keeping an eye on the masterclasses calendar also as those are bookable online www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/events/masterclasses

I live near Cambridge.

Most camps are aimed at younger children as they are primarily childcare.

There are stem/science camps in the U.K. - Leicester university run a space science one which I would highly recommend. Some London unis also run get into medicine/stem etc courses in the summer.

I'm not aware of anything like that in the Cambridge area.

He is very unlikely to be able to get a job for two weeks

There are lots of teens and uni students around Cambridge. When my son got a job working at the local gym it took them nearly a month to sort the paperwork so he could start his shifts and he was a British citizen resident in Britain with simple papers.

Can he do something useful for the GP? - decorating or heavy duty gardening or similar.
Ditto for a charity - digging ditches, coppicing, etc.

I can't see many employers taking a punt (pun unintended) on a foreign teenager for only a fortnight, unless the GP have contacts.

How about a facebook plea?

Studying Italian, willing to host a 16yo fluent Italian / Eglish speaker daytimes only for odd days 1-15 August? Would suit A level student wish to improve fluency.

I would try and find him some volunteer work, if possible vaguely related to a subject he might be interested in studying at university.
