Class clown

My DS is in year 9 and about to go on report again. He is disruptive in lessons by messing around and being the class clown. He performed well on the last report and he improved for a while but now his behaviour has gone downhill again.

I have spoken to him many times, he is not like this at home but wants to show off in front of his friends. He is a bright boy but have received emails to say he is not performing well now in tests. I am so frustrated with him, told him that being the class clown is getting him nowhere.

Has anyone’s DC been through this and come out well in the end? It is low level disruption but I don’t want it to escalate. I have considered asking him to be moved classes away from his friends but not sure if that will work.

He was extremely anxious in year 7 and now has gone the opposite - I feel like his is anxious and just wants to be liked.

Mine is year 10 and the same.
Not a bad bone in his body, just likes to make people laugh, much to his teachers disgust
We now praise for every day he stays out of trouble.

Yes my dd was likecthis on y11 and y12
( Northern Ireland) did Gcse at Covid time where teachers gave grades and she narrowly made it to Alevel and did a complete u turn then hot to As and B
She is currently studying Law at Uni and doing well
She had my heart broke from age 15 to 17and her teachers had my head wrecked.
But so proud of her now.

You will get through this.
