My 13 yo daughter (nearly 14) has come home from school tonight and gone to sleep - no dinner, not even changed into her PJ's. I have been in so many times and asked her to get up and she just looks at me and goes back to sleep. She is not ill, has no temp and was fine when she came in from school.

I have removed her phone, iPad and XBox so there is nothing in there for her to do - she is really sleeping

Should I just leave her now as it is 11.45?

Leave her alone ? Why take her devices away anyway? Just leave her sleep ffs she obviously needs it

lljkk · 05/01/2024 00:00

Are you saying she stayed up all night, last night?

Lindy2 · 05/01/2024 00:05

She clearly is very tired. Why is it a problem if she just sleeps? I'm assuming she ate some lunch so a missed evening meal isn't really a big deal.

Why have you taken the devices? Has she played until too late the night before which has caused tge tiredness? Perhaps she is unwell.

She went to sleep at 7 on Thursday

I dont understand what you are asking?

PiggieWig · 05/01/2024 00:15

Everyone’s body clocks are spannered this week. It’s the first week of January.
Both mine went through a spell of sleeping after school in year 8/9. They are growing and learning and socialising and going through puberty - it’s knackering. Leave her be and encourage a good routine going forwards.

But with no dinner?

Why on earth are you removing her phone and punishing her for being tired? Poor thing is just exhausted! It used to happen with DD on occasion, definitely worse at the start of term. I used to just leave some water and snacks on her bedside table for if she got hungry in the middle of the night

But with no dinner?

My 6yr old asked to go to bed at 1730 tonight, he didn't want any dinner I only just about managed to get him to eat some chocolate chip brioche! Why would you take all her devices away? And keep waking her up? She's tired, leave her alone!

WhatNoUsername · 05/01/2024 03:33

Why on earth do you keep trying to wake her up?? Leave the poor girl alone. She's obviously ill or exhausted.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/01/2024 03:58

She's 13, musings meal won't hurt occasionally.

Burntouted · 12/01/2024 03:57

Leave her alone and let her be. She's exhausted and perhaps depressed.

She isn't a small child reliant on you to give her meals and literally feed her.

She knows how to eat when she's hungry.

Why punish her for being tired??

If she's on devices all night, take them from her at a set time every night (if she has insomnia don't) or don't....she'll learn time management herself ..one way or another..

Are you lonely and without much of an independent life, perhaps with none or not many friends?

because it's like you're trying to wake her up for company or something

Mushroomwithaview · 12/01/2024 04:30

It's okay for her to miss a meal.
It's okay for her to go to sleep early.
It's okay for her to be really tired.
It's okay for her body-clock to be out of whack because it's the first week back.
It's even okay if she's tired because she was a bit silly and stayed up last night reading or messaging friends.

All of that is okay and normal teenage behaviour.

It's okay for you to be worried and check on her.

It is not okay for you to keep going in to wake her up.
It is not okay to punish her for sleeping.
