Teen hormones help

Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on how to help with teenage boys hormones? I know every teen has them but I am unsure how to help him with feeling angry a lot and feeling sad and down.

I'm working on making sure he has enough sleep, trying to get him to eat healthier snacks, we are close so I try to talk to him but I'm not sure what else I could be doing? I thought of trying vitamins and minerals to help balance out his hormones?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

how old is he?

i find with mine… lots of sport and strict control of screen time really helps

Enforced outside time, fresh air and daylight, bribe him with stopping for a hot chocolate to get him to walk with you. I think the omega oils in vitamins/foods are very good for the brain. Perhaps joing the gym and if he's old enough some weight exercises, the gym will allow teens to use weight machines but often restrict free weight use. Lifting weights is a good way to get feelings of frustration out and I find exercise great for balancing my up and down hormones, they are much more level now.

Definitely agree with pp about limiting phone use, suggest a movie evening as a family or him inviting friends over for a movie. 😊

He is 12 but advanced for his age, puberty has been in full swing for the last year.

He plays football for 3 teams and rugby for 1 team so is very active. He does spend too much time on his phone outside this though so trying to address that.

I may see if he is old enough to try weights.

I was thinking of starting him on multi vitamins and minerals to help balance hormones?

Thanks

what kind of behaviour are we talking about Op?

I had to force mine off Fortnite and TikTok as it had a really detrimental affect on his attitude, self-esteem and behaviour. And I'm really not the kind of parent to police screen time above the basics, but it was definitely affecting him.

Also, my kids (14 & 15) have to hand in all devices at 9.30pm, so they have some time to decompress before bed. Mine would be glued to screens 24/7 otherwise.

If you think it may be a genuine hormone thing as opposed to social factors, perhaps look at taking some vitamin supplements or a visit to the GP to get his testosterone levels checked.

Could it be SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) now that the dark nights have arrived or has it been going on for a while?
